I live in ACC country. I have been to a ton of football games in ACC stadiums over the last 20+ years. But just got me thinking how "down" certain divisions are in certain conferences. Or how bad certain conferences are as a whole. Some media and other folks are downing the B1G West, whole ACC, etc.

Boston College is stinking up the Atlantic. Duke and UNC have more conference wins than any other 3 teams combined in the Coastal. Virginia Tech has lost 5 straight and has not won an away game.

So, explain this to me like I am five. How bad is your conference (division in that conference)?

The Big Xii is tough!
The last place team - Iowa State (0-5) is undefeated (1-0) in the B1G this year.
It was on the road to boot.

B1G East is just fine. The B1G West on the other hand is an ABSOLUTE TRAIN WRECK!!!!! Illinois is the best of the trash heap over there right now.

Yeah, SEC East is a real craphole.

Yeah -- I agree. I believe we play them in the upcoming weeks. Not sure if it is at Michigan or at Illinois though.
As long as Red Grange doesn't play, I'll take the Wolverines!

Rutger has a conference win.

Divisions make conferences look worse imo. Being able to avoid certain teams or having to play others skews things big time. We’d know how good/bad things really are if USC/Oregon, Bama/Georgia, etc played each other this year. Why does Tennessee have to face both and not the other two?

We will likely see USC/Oregon this year.

Divisions don't change unbalanced schedules.

Pac no longer has divisions as it's now just the top 2.

12 teams playing 9 conf games leaves teams fucked with playing the top teams and teams that skate made to look better than they are by missing those top teams.

It's worse in other conferences with more teams and even less conference games. You can't balance with 14, 15, etc teams and then play 8? GTFO.

This climb up to mega conferences is only going to make that worse. At least until/unless they go to 20 and 2 divisions and only play in your division until the conf championship game. Basically a flashback to when we had balance with most conferences having 10 teams.

Unbalanced conference schedules are completely fucking stupid.

True but back in the day, most conferences only played 5 conference games and teams would go decades without playing each other. Georgia and Tennessee went from 1944-1961 or something like that without playing each other.

The argument about everyone needs to play each other often has only come up the last 10 years or so.

3 elite teams. A handful of decent-pretty good teams. The top makes it better than the rest

The Pac has played 9 conf games decades and had balanced schedules until adding Utah and Colorado.

You played 100% of the conference every year. The only variable was which tough games did you get at home vs road. So it wasn't 100 equal, but at least you had to play everyone to be crowned champion.

Go back far enough in history and Pac12 didn't see other teams as often. Then again, for a long time, it was only an 8 or 10 team conference.
