How have football programs fared after leaving or joining the Big 12?

Not sure about your thinking on this. TCU was damn good prior to joining the Big 12. In 2010 TCU was in the MWC, played in the Rose Bowl (BCS) and beat B1G champ Wisconsin (P5 opponent). Had the CFP been in existance, they'd have probably beat Cincy as the first G5 school to make a playoff.

Outside the financial standing, and as far as how the TCU football program "fared" prior to joining the Big 12, they've really done about the same IMO. TCU's football program started getting "revitalized" in 1998 when Franchione took over. Hell, they beat USC in the Sun Bowl that year. While not a BCS Bowl, USC is damn sure a P5 blue blood.

A 1-loss G5 TCU never gets anywhere near a BCS Bowl, much less a CFP game.

Thing about that year was TCU would have matched up much better against Oregon or Auburn on the defensive side of the ball than they did Wisconsin. IMO Even though Oregon and Auburn had better QBs.

Didn’t TCU have Andy Dalton?

Aggy got to go play in a conference that can’t play offense (as opposed to the popular notion that the defense was outstanding) and therefore looked great in comparison. Hence, they’ve got an identity and a Heisman and recruiting juice.

The one that has suffered the most from the move was Nebraska.

Colorado was already a sinking ship prior to going to Pac12. Colorado started going down hill after their scandals ~2005 and never quite recovered from it.

Truthfully, these moves aren't what is driving the lack of success, these programs would be dealing with same issues in Big12 that they are now.

I do agree with some posters that Aggies got a boost by being the Texas team in the SEC but they haven't really taken advantage of it. They might have faired better if they were not in the SEC West dealing with Saban every year.

TCU is the absolute winner among these teams in all this shuffle.

Once upon a time, TCU had to beg, borrow and steal to get a BCS Bowl bid. One year, they were let into a BCS bowl and still couldn't get a P5 opponent.

Now, even with a loss, TCU gets into the CFP.

Aggie gets a big upgrade as well. No way does Manziel win the Heisman without the Alabama game.

These are things these teams and players do not get if they stayed in the conference they had been in.

True but TCU always felt like this team that should have been in Big12 all along. They were a step a head of other G5 teams every year. A lot of people thought they should have been in the original Big12 over Baylor or Texas Tech.

Boise State, BYU, TCU, and Utah were kind of the Big4 of G5 powerhouses in the first decade this century. For a short stint, they were all going to be in the MWC together but then Utah and TCU got Power 5 invites.

crazy thing is if aggy had stayed in the Big12 one more season..they likely go undefeated and play for the BCS championship game and probably beat Alabama

He would have won the Heisman most likely anyways too if he were in the Big12
