i concede that it can be done but its still a rare thing. im just not buying in until i see what Riley can do when he isnt just handed a ready made playoff team.

Michigan sucked in 2020 and won the B1G in 2021 and made the CFP.

MSU was 6-6, 3-5 in 2012 and won the B1G in 2013.

PSU was 6-6, 4-4 in 2015 and won the B1G in 2016

Stanford was 3-8, 2-6 in 1998 and won the P12 in 1999.

Maryland was 5-6, 3-5 in the ACC in 2000 and won the ACC in 2001.

I'm sure there are others, but those were off the top of my head.

Wake Forest went from 4-7 (3-5) in 2005 to winning the league in 2006

2020 was a weird year its hard to take 2020 to 2021 or even 19 to 20 to heart because of the opt outs and game cancelations and partial teams sitting out for covid.

MSU 7-6 to 13-1 6 win difference.
penn state 7-6 to 11-3 4 win difference
i feel like a middle of the road team is better suited to swing to the top

Stanford went 3-8 to 8-4 5 win difference
Maryland 5-6 to 10-2 5 win difference

a 5 win swing for these teams didnt include a championship game either
a 5 win swing for USC is 9 wins.

also off the top of your head? you really have 1998 and 1999 stanford stats rolling around in there?

MSU and PSU both won 6 regular season games. Just two more than usc last year. I can see a 9-3 usc team making the P12 CCG, which would give them a shot.

And yes, off the top of my head. When programs like MD and Stanford had been awful, and jump up and win a conference, odds are the year before they weren't very good. And they weren't.

regular season and then bowls. dont discount what extra practices and that game can do for returning players going into the next season

I'm not. Football is my introduction to the fall. School is back and it's great fun but after it's over we suck shit in the winter and watch hockey. Spring is nice because it starts with March Madness but summer is where it's at. The kids have stuff going on and when they aren't you spend time at the pool. Then you get to late August and school starts and Football is great but it's the gateway to a probably shitty winter. We are at the beginning of summer. I love football but the next 90 days can feel like 1000 for all I care.

Tldr fuck winter. We're as far away from it as it gets and I'm going to savor every day between now and when we see snow.

Edit: I missed the point of this by reading the headline and reacting. I'll probably have a more metered response in a day or two when I get back to this thread.

Nebraska and Colorado were both in the Big 12 North Division.
Colorado beat Nebraska in the regular season finale.

Colorado beat tejas in the Big 12 title game. It was rematch that tejas had won earlier in the season (41-7).

Hindsight is 20/20.

If Oregon doesn't lose to Stanford they were in.
If Colorado doesn't lose to Fresno St and Texas they're in.

You have nothing but homerism to suggest either of those could have beaten Miami.

false by my standards the oregon team that was # 2 by AP and coaches poll and won the Pac 10 had more of a case.
by my standards Colorado who just beat Nebraska head to head and was #3 in both polls and won the Big XII had more of a case.
