inb4 @ill shows up to regale us all with stories of all his experiences knowing someone who lived on a dude ranch on the proper ways to lead a cattle drive....

I could regale you with a story from Spring Break when I was 14 or so?

My brother was a horse nut. Wanted his own etc. So my Mom signed him up for a week's worth of riding lessons and though I should do it too.

I got assigned a horse named Joker. Kind of skittish.

They made us ride English, so no horn on the saddle.

By weeks end we were adequate riders and the instructor had Joker on a 30' line and I was told to do a 360 in the saddle as the horse was trotting.

All good till I'd done a 180 and was looking back at where I'd just been. The trot got me bouncing and I kicked the fucking nag into a gallop. And boy could he gallop, he had been a rodeo barrel racer. Instant go.

There is no video but I've been told that I never made a sound as the out of control horse took off. It got to the corral fence after a couple of laps, reared up on it's hind legs and fell over backwards on top of me, pinning my right leg under him as he frantically tried to right himself.

I picked myself up, dusted myself off, and never went near a horse again.
