but if you need a replay analysis in the announcing staff, refs are too big a part of the game.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
The replacement refs weren't really any worse than the normal NFL refs. They came from college and other leagues so there were some minor issues with stuff like ball placement and occasionally something with the clock. That's understandable. They would correct that over time, probably wouldn't have been any issues after a few weeks. But the number of actual god awful complete dumbass flags and missed calls wasn't any different. The announcers and ESPN were just WAAAAAY more critical of everything the replacement refs did.
Yeah, I know Fail Mary. That's not even top 10 worst calls I've seen in the last decade at this point though.

& the funny thing about Fail Mary.
It was the normal refs that told the replacements. "yeah never call PI on Hail Mary's" So teams can take it as on final plays of game, rules dont apply!
Remember a long time back (now) a niner player was gonna catch a deep ball & was literally tackled before the ball got there. No penalty was called. Would have changed the winner of that guy most likely.
but the worst thing about refs, is simply how inconsistent they are.
In Baseball if an ump is calling bad calls on balls & strikes. if it is the same for both sides, while it sucks still fair.
