During a wide-ranging radio interview Monday with ESPN 850, former Browns coach Hue Jackson said the team's efforts to improve while he was with them were flawed by philosophical differences.

There are a lot of moving parts to make that puzzle work even if you try your best, have a competent GM and have the right coaching staff as well. It seems the Dolphins are kinda going that route sticking with their young QB, trying to surround him, defense is very nice and loaded up but they do have veterans on big contracts. If Tua isn't the real deal they have a backup plan acquiring picks but they never had anything close to a teardown or shedding a ton of vets. Hard to make it work, gotta give it to the Browns (to this point) but they want this to be a long-term thing and that is going to be the hardest part. They have planned it out perfectly so far, just gotta make the pieces fit the puzzle now.If the Brownies can continue their improvement this season and make a serious playoff push, it will be interesting to see if any other franchises try to adopt the same or similar teardown & rebuild model. Tanking for high picks isn't a new thing, but no franchise has gone about it quite as extensively as the Browns.
First few seasons really suck, but you focus on acquiring as much draft capital as possible. Shed vets to free up as much cap space as possible. They got absolutely roasted at the time for trading spots to the Eagles (Wentz) and Texans (Watson), but in the long game it's beginning to pay off.
There's overlap in the timetable but in general: Years 1-2 you acquire as many picks as you possibly can. Years 2-4 is talent acquisition mode and culture/belief building. Years 4-6 is the winning stage. Hopefully a good number of your picks have panned out (especially at QB). By this time you should have a roster loaded with highly talented, young players on their first or 2nd contracts with cap space to bring in vets for key areas of need.

The worst record for a coach with one team in NFL history. Own it Hue. Don't try to put the blame on others for your awful coaching.

I hope the Browns get to the Super Bowl this year.
