He allowed NO HITS in his entire stint with us. Hard to top that.

I mean, not just anyone can go out and pitch one inning and call it done for the season. Takes a special talent.

He was going on 3 days rest routinely in a contract year. Will always respect him for pouring everything he had into his rental season with the Brewers.

His stint with the Brewers and Randy Johnson with the Astros are the two most dominant rental performances for a rental pitcher that I’ve seen

His last three starts of the season were actually the only ones that he threw on 3 days rest. It was still a fantastic run.

Definitely a "recency bias" issue coupled with some homerism, but Jordan Montgomery in 2023 is in that mix for me.

I should add that it's not like anyone else was throwing on three days rest regularly either. I certainly ain't ragging on the man :wink:

Three in a row on three days rest in the regular season is still impressive

Nowadays, I’d expect a contract year rental to sit out the playoffs before they’d go on three days rest once
 
No issues with any of these
 
For a mid-season trade, I would put up Rick Sutcliffe, 1984 Cubs. Went 16-1 and won the Cy Young with a partial season.

He spent like 5 more years with the Cubs. Not a rental like Sabathia and Johnson

I was going to comment on that too. I knew he was good, but his time with the Brewers, though brief, really highlighted how good he was. He pretty much carried them on his back.
