I’m a Sucker for Great Stories....

You want a good story? Start at the beginning, here:

The couch burning tradition began at WVU after a big win over hated rival Pitt. During the post game (ahem) “celebrations” some of the fans at one of the nearby apartments were sleeping/passing out on the couch as the night progressed. Some of the folks there decided that they had seen enough of this tomfoolery and that the party was going to by God last all night no matter what so if there was no couch then there could be no sleeping on one so … out the door in went, it was set on fire, and a tradition was born.

* it is against the law to do so in Morgantown now and IIRC it’s actually a felony as officials stiffened the punishment to try to curtail the act. Clashes have happened between students/fans against fire fighters and police trying to stop the burning after big wins.
