You got that right. It's almost here. Crazy to believe we haven't had normal conference tournaments or the NCAA tournament since 2019. It will be a welcoming sight.

I'm gonna try and put one together, won't get to it this weekend, but will next weekend. Then I'll update periodically the rest of the season, then finish one off on Selection Sunday. I am going to start a top 16 Reveal thread like I've done in the past.

We’ve been a title contender for the last 5 years.

Do you even follow basketbal?

I follow it enough to know how fast that bandwagon is gonna empty once they get the dirt on Pearl...

except last year where you finished with a losing record

and you guys lost by 30+ points to Brad Brownell in 2018 @RubinRock

but other than that, Auburn has been a model of consistency that would make 1960s-90s UNC envious

That cocksucker is fucking dead to me.

Calling it now, they end up in Dayton. Lol. But all things considered, getting to the tournament in year 2 probably puts the program a little bit ahead of the pace. I'm hoping they get in. I think they're the 2nd best team in the ACC, but they've had to manage a much more difficult ACC schedule than Miami/ND.
Lunardi has Wake as a #9 right now. Have to think if they win all the games they're favored in, they're going to stay in that 8-10 seed area.

Last year we voluntarily banned ourselves from postseason play in anticipation of the NCAA rulings so the entire year was about getting kids ready for the next year and its paid huge dividends.

It didn't help that only had one guard on the roster and he was held out half the year by the NCAA and two years prior we signed no players due to the NCAA investigation.

Last year was going to be a sacrifice pretty much no matter what. Now we are free and clear and going to rack up post-season wins.

I honestly think that's probably a little high at this point. I'd have them closer to an #11 seed and just missing Dayton. I'd have teams like Iowa State, Rutgers, Memphis and Creighton ahead of Wake at this point. Wake has just one win against the projected field in UNC, and they are more likely to miss at this point IMO. Wake has good metrics, but they have a bad OOC SoS. That's typically not a good sign if you're near the cutline. They do have a good SoR, which out of all the analytics, I put the most weight on.

It's not going to happen.

What they got Pearl from at Tennessee was ridiculous and not even illegal anymore. Everyone acts like Pearl was running a UNLV type program but it's a ridiculous assumption.

Auburn is one of the closest big schools to Atlanta and we have one of the most electric areas in the country. After this year we will have put 6 high profile kids in the NBA over the last 4 years and resurrected the college careers of another 6. The talent Pearl is going to get year in and year out is going to be ridiculous.

The beast has woken up.

That isn't why people dislike Pearl. Nobody cares that he got fired from Tennessee. He's a rat and has been a rat since the 1980s.

Losing Smith and Kessler is going to be a huge loss. Those guys won't be easy to replace. Kessler is such a great defender he makes up for the lack of defense on the perimeter. No doubt this team is special, but it's really his first special team at Auburn, including the team that went to the FF. But he's done incredible there, because Auburn has no history of being good at basketball.

He may be a rat but he's our rat!

Auburn is a basketball school now. We should be pulling top freshmen and transfers.

Chuma Okeeke
Isaac Okoro
JT Thor
Sharife Cooper

All of them great players and all of them replaced.

Kessler will be the toughest (Smith only averages 15 a game so his production can be replaced) but I think Pearl's success with him and his willingness to allow the big guys to shoot the 3 is going to attract attention. Regardless Cardwell with a little more maturity can carry the load at center. I expect most everyone other than Smith and Kessler to be back and Kessler might come back.

You're also a year removed from finishing under .500. No doubt Auburn is on a good trajectory, but a season like this shouldn't be the expectation given what Auburn has done under Pearl. Auburn is fortunate that Roy completely botched the Kessler situation. And then you guys enroll a top 3 pick. It's the perfect storm. Auburn will be a good program going forward, but I'd guess a top 20/25ish program.
