The power company shuts off the grid during hurricanes for safety.
They don't want people coming out of their homes and being around live wires on the ground.
Got it back on last night around 8:30
We got booted off the island Sunday morning. We were leaving anyway so that didn't matter. Many had already left by then, so it was eerily quiet as I was driving around Port Aransas. The grocery store and other places had their windows boarded up. Doesn't like much damage occurred in the Corpus Christi area at all.
This isn't a widespread SOP for power companies inland. We've only lost power when something has been damaged. They didn't shut anything down before Sandy or Isaias when those hit us.
