Is Tennessee the new Minnesota?

Tennessee wishes they had a coach as good as Fleck.

I don't disagree with that comment, but to be fair, Minnesota plays in a shitty division. It would be like playing in the SEC East without Florida or Georgia.

It'd be interesting to see if Fleck could succeed at a school that he would need to recruit at a high level like Tennessee. You could be the greatest college football mind ever, but in today's world, if you can't recruit, you can't win big

I agree 100%. But there are others that seem to think a series of 25-30 ranked recruiting classes should be adequate if you hire the right coach.

If you want to win some big Bowl games, maybe compete for a conference championship and have 9+ win seasons most of the time, the right coach can do that with 25-30. If you want to win it all, it's not happening in today's college football.world

I'd say given where he's been he's recruited really well. Before he got there the Gophers were lucky to pull a top 50 class. He's pulled in classes ranked 38(2018), 45(2019) and 38(2020). His last two classes at WMU were ranked #1 in the conference. I'm pretty confident if he landed a top 15/20 job, he'd recruit at that level. You can only do so much at the programs he's been at.

Right now, we don't deserve to be compared to Texas. We are more like Miami or Nebraska. We were great in the 1990s but haven't done anything in 20 years.

Even in the 1990s, we choked. They couldn't win a title with Peyton Manning. We should have likely had 2 or 3 National Titles.

Pffft, take that Orange shit somewhere else.

I agree he has recruited well where he has been. In those situations I feel like there are certain recruits you look for in order to be successful. Just would be interesting if he could go get those 5*s if given the opportunity at a bigger name

Can't all be Wisconsin.

Can't all be Wisconsin.

Wisconsin is a perfect example. Good enough recruiting and a great system to win a lot of games. Very unlikely to ever win a Natty though.

Maybe. The recruiting is starting to improve in the 2020s. Yeah, we need a couple years yet, but Wisky does play above their ranking.

The issue is that the South is different than the Midwest. I think he could recruit for other B1G teams fine but going to another part of the country can create new challenges. Then again, he could totally rise to the occasion. I think he was one of the coach on my most Vol fans list a couple of years ago.

11 of the 24 recruits in 2020 were in SEC territory. All of them were 3 stars except for 1 four star, but it looks like he has some connections already in the South. I'd argue their 4 best players are from SEC territory, Morgan, Dunlap, Bateman and Faalele.
