It is Mid-October and there are over 10 teams still in serious contention for the Title

I will respectfully disagree. I have watched CFB for a long time and it was historically the B1G that always got love (especially Michigan and Ohio State). I have seen 3-4 loss Michigan teams in the top 10 in the past. The so-called SEC bias only started around 2006 and it was only because Florida (which the media whined about because they wanted the rematch) got into the BCS title game and blew out Ohio State. That started a streak of SEC National Titles and the media basically had to admit the SEC was the best after that streak.

Prior to that, it was B1G. ESPN signing a contract with the SEC helped as well.

Perhaps I am old school because I remember 1990s and early 2000s with the media always slobbering over the B1G and Notre Dame.

The gag was that if Michigan or Notre Dame started out 3-0 (no matter who they played), they would instantly be in the top 5 no matter were they were ranked going into the season.

Sure SEC gets a lot of love now but they backed it up and have earned it in the past. Take this as an example, in Tennessee's start, they beat Alabama, Florida, and LSU. Those three programs hold 11 of the 21 National Titles this Century. That is basically half the National Titles since 2000 among those 3 programs.

Bama UGA and to a extent LSU somewhat have earned it, everyone else not so much.

Florida has not been relevant for the most part in the national title hunt since Meyer left, Auburn outside of a few years is extremely shakey, Texas A&M is Americas favorite perennial 4-5 loss team that they love to swear is "elite" every year. They like to try to hype the Mississippi schools every so often. but lol. Tennessee until this point has been a afterthought since like the early 2000s

I'm still waiting for someone to explain how Florida dropping ONE SPOT after losing to a 5-5 LSU team AT HOME in the CFP rankings before the SEC title game is in no way shape or form clear SEC Bias.

Ohio State even would drop like a brick if they lost to a 6-6 Michigan team the week before the B1G title game.

OHST’s resume is warm, moist dogshit, absolutely. But, uh…Toledo’s actually 5-2, fwiw.

Teams like ND, OHST, USC, Wisky, def Miami (FL), Texass, Michigan, are all clearly beneficiaries of some kind of bias in the polls/media. At some point, they’ve all gotten the BotD when they probably shouldn’t have.

But the SEC gets more undeserved bias in their favor than anyone else. At least with conf’s, anyway. Thats not really debatable that imo.

I think Ohio State is usually pretty fairly ranked in the preseason polls.

Only time in recent memory I can think of where they were way off was 2011, they shoulda never been ranked at all that year. The 6-7 year inbetween Tressel and Meyer.

They desperately want Texas, USC & Miami to be "back" thats why they always get so much unwarranted preseason hype.

Texas & USC do seem to be on the mend though, Miami not so much.

The explanation is SEC. Same for the B1G. And it will get worse. Pretty soon, every team from one of the two conferences that dish out big money from networks will automatically be “elite”…whether the team is really worth a shit or not. Membership has its privileges.

I really don't think the B1G gets that same treatment in that same situation.

They did it to hedge the chance at 2 SEC teams in the playoff if Florida happened to upset Bama in the SEC title game.

ESPN still has a major monopoly on college football, even with Fox in the picture. ESPN still has a lot of the control. They of course relentlessly pimp the SEC because of their dealings with them. They started souring on the B1G some when they launched the Big 10 Network.

WTF. Why does it have to be 6-6 Michigan?
lucious lyon wtf GIF

That's because ESPN can devote 100% of their programming to it.

FOX, ABC, NBC, & CBS, all have other programming (sitcoms, local/national news, gameshows, etc.) that they air.

There is no doubt that ESPN pimps the SEC...just look at their CFB website. (Although your Buckeyes also have several pictures on it right now as well.)

But, that's why Florida didn't drop.

Don't you think the B1G has gotten some props like that before? Maybe not to the SEC level, but props nonetheless. At least a hell of a lot more than the ACC, Big 12 and PAC 12.

Depends on the team.

They LOVE Clemson, Texas & Oklahoma. They will prop them when they can. They'd love to prop up Florida State & Miami but those 2 have been bad enough for the most part that they aren't able to.

A good example though is Illinois, Illinois gets nowhere near the "hype" that they give a Kentucky or Miss State type team in the same situation. Similar types of teams status wise but the SEC ones get a bigger boost in terms of media hype. I'd say the same could be said for Syracuse in the ACC but naturally they love Clemson so Syracuse is a GREAT TEST! for them.

Illinois gets their doors blown off by Michigan in a few weeks and "ho hum Illinois was overrated"

B1G has historically gotten far more media hype then SEC. SEC earned it by winning 13 of the last 20 National Titles. That is going to create hype for your conference.

So, yeah, that is why you hear about SEC all the time. Plus it is a big media draw.

If B1G would have 2-3 teams like Michigan and Penn State going to playoffs and winning titles with Ohio State (and frankly, Ohio State hasn't won it since 2014 and got beat 52-24 when they last played Alabama in title game).

This is why SEC gets hyped.

I personally thank the media is very fair. The poll on here seems to constantly line up with the media poll other than a few teams here or there. So even this board tends to agree with voting.

I don't get why an Ohio State fan is whining about the media when they get more love than about any other program in college football for doing so little.

Sounds like you're talking about Texas A&M there.

They've literally done nothing, yet every year we are expected to believe they are elite and their record only doesn't match because SEC!!!!

They are not in the polls just like overhyped Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Wisconsin.

Heck you can say that about half the B1G this year: Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan State, etc.

Answer me this, if Ohio State doesn't get media hype? How come CJ Stroud is ahead of Hendon Hooker right now in most media Heisman watches?

You know I'm not an SEC wonk, and I've admitted ESPN pimps them all the time.

And if Syracuse and Illinois put together a string of pretty good seasons and don't get similar love, I'll agree with you 100%. Kentucky has earned some benefit of the doubt over the past several seasons IMO....more so than Miss State. Miss State probably gets some extra hype because they are in the SEC West and have The Pirate which brings some press. If those two turn out to be just a flash in the pan or the flavor of the month, then they didn't earn that benefit IMO.

Utah is a team that has earned a little "bias" over the past few seasons ala Kentucky IMO. I'm beginning to think Wake Forest has too.

Texas A&M
Arkansas
Florida
Kentucky

All overhyped at some point this season

Nebraska and Iowa were never even ranked lol "overhyped"

Wake Forest is legit. That was a great win for Clemson. Wake probably should have beaten Clemson.

Arkansas beat Cincinnati (who is ranked) and just won @ BYU
Kentucky won 10 games last year and has beaten ranked Miss State, won in the Swamp, and should have beaten Ole Miss
Texas A&M - I agree. Recruiting Classes and Jimbo was the only reason they were in top ten
Florida - They beat #11 Utah in their opener so in reality they got credit for beating Pac12 team. They jumped after that win and have since dropped out of the polls after their second loss to Tennessee and haven't made it back in.

I don't see it with the exception of Texas A&M.

I mean you guys had 8-4 Michigan teams that finish in top 10, got Charles Woodson over Peyton Manning, 1997 Michigan over 1997 Nebraska, they tried to have all B1G game in 2006 but got blocked.

Also, why is an Ohio State fan talking trash about Florida? You guys have NEVER beaten them. You can talk shit once you actually beat an SEC team.

I personally thank the media is very fair.
The "media" overall may be "fair." But do you really believe ESPN isn't slanted towards the SEC? Hell, CBS has had the main SEC games for several years but they don't slobber all over the SEC like ESPN has.

Ohio State should have dropped out of polls last year when they lost to Oregon at home according to @osubuckeye89 logic.
