It's Throwback Thursday's thread of sarcasm and witty repartee

I thought you weren't going to be political.

All I did was answer your question about why healthy people get tested.
Not political. Medical and statistical.

I don't see how you can say we have an increase in percentage of cases when the healthy people haven't been tested.

I didn't say that.

Yea, I have no doubt. I've said for almost 10 years that the lack of intelligence by people around here is the worst part about living here.
Guy I work with the other day

"They said 80% of people who tested positive wore masks. THEY DON'T WORK. why do we still have to wear these stupid things?"

Yeah, not bothering with that

My wife's general manager enclosed the porch at cracker barrel with plastic and bought some heaters (out of her own pocket) and allowed outside dining. No inside dining is allowed now.
Regional manager ordered her to stop because it made the store ugly.
Regional manager's boss looked at the receipts and said Ignore regional manager, keep doing outside dining.

The numbers with all of it are going to be fucked anyway. You're not recording the asymptomatic people who pass it to people who show some symptoms who then kill gramma. Realistically the number of "positive cases" is probably under reported, but if you test everyone to catch the asymptomatic people, you fuck the useful data. So, the way they are doing it now, makes the most sense...

Not wanting to delve into the political aspect of this, but do I understand rightly that they're basing the numbers on tests now?
IL just got shut down again in my area because of positive tests.
Correct. California just tightened their restrictions based on case increases. Meantime, their 7-day cases are down 58% from its peak on 7/26, and 7-day deaths down 65% from peak on 8/6.
Doesn't it stand to reason that people would only get tested if they were sick?
Pretty much anyone can get tested now if they want to, and some amount of healthy people are being required to take tests for travel, work, school, etc.

Based on the USS Roosevelt and the Princess Lines cruise ship, it seems that about 60% of folks that get this thing are asymptomatic. If we're blanket testing, we're going to catch a lot more asymptomatic cases than we were back in March/April.

Last week, we tested 50% more people than we did just two months ago.

I mean, at least that guy used the word masks. I linked to that dumb college bitch who is a nursing student at NDSU who doesn't have a basic grasp of viral transmission. I'm surrounded by people of this level of intellect.

They are in their 60’s, but my mom has diabetes and my dad has high blood pressure. Both are overweight. Not exactly pillars of health.
I get it.

My 'rents are in their 70s. Pops has mild diabetes and mom's overweight.

What about all the people who don't get tested and aren't sick?

How are we running numbers at random?

What about Justin turner? Should he be sentenced to life in prison?
Yes

Looks like I'm going to be posting on similar info, not having read anything else but this page (15). One of my uncle's on my dad's side tested positive for COVID and has pneumonia. Doesn't sound like a good combo at all.

At that point it comes down to how.many deaths are acceptable. While we are getting better at treating it and deaths are quite as high, there are still deaths.

kobes concerns about getting her parents sick are still relevant. I wouldn't want to get someone sick who couldn't handle it.

Seriously.

If the brothers get the parents sick anyway, you wouldn't be able to spend time with them in the hospital, so why not one last holiday?!
Folks are laughing, but that went in to our decision to see my parents. They're not cavalier about it, but they have definitely eaten at restaurants more than I have since the start of this thing. So, I thought if they're in a proverbial bubble, I would understand keeping away, but they could also get it from somewhere else and we'd have missed all this time.

Reasonable. I think folks in their 70s/80s have about a 15% chance of dying if they get this stuff.

I'm not trying to tell anyone how to handle this, but I believe having as much real information as you can is beneficial.
I'm doing my best to stay away from old people.

Damn thats morbid.

"We are only here because you might not survive this, mom and dad."

Yea, like I posted in another thread, I was out "doing stuff" like going to baseball games back when we were at 30 cases a day. Now I'm not doing most anything because of the rates around here.

Luckily I'm not one of those "I JUST WANT TO LIVE LIFE AGAIN" people because I...hate people. So this covid stuff has been going pretty swimmingly. But this town is full of BIZZZZZZZZZZON trash, which includes people in their 50s and 60s still living life like they are in college, so...here we are.

This thing's going to kill people until it burns itself out like it did in NY.

Fortunately, it's overwhelmingly old folks with comorbidities. Nearly HALF of our deaths have been from nursing homes. Folks in nursing homes represent 1% of our population.

I don't mean to seem cold-hearted, but we also can't be too bleeding heart about inevitabilities.
