I've had to reconcile 2.6 million dollar charge, it's off by $24. I figured out what is off, but not why. I've advised we just potentially short ourselves $24 rather than spending hours trying to figure it out which will cost more than $24.00

Usually there is an allowance for cost overrun or a contingency plan for downtime or even lost production. Blame it on a bean counter, write a change order and figure out how to blame it on the sub contractor! What the hell you think we pay you for? Cover your ass and overcharge the client!
