I've seen three in my parents yard in the last month. Bastards got away from me before I could kill them but I gave them very dirty looks.

Why kill non venomous snakes? They eat rats, and some even eat venomous snakes.

It's like people that kill possums. Possums ain't hurting anything, they don't carry rabies and they eat more ticks than any animal other than noisy as fuck guinea fowl.

I saw a baby something or other earlier today, but it took off so quickly I have no idea what kind it was.
It didn't make any noise, so presumably it wasn't a rattler (and I've always heard baby rattlesnakes are m-e-a-n), and that's the only poisonous snake in the Bay Area, I think, so I don't care, other than curiosity as to what kind it was.

I'm guessing it was a baby gopher snake. I've seen gopher snakes around before. Those things can get pretty damned big.

opossums don't carry rabies? do they have some sort of natural immunity against it?

We were talking during an end-of-day meeting about what we were doing for the weekend and I came reaaaalllllll close to dropping that when I'm in Boise this weekend I'll probably be drunk off my ass.

Possums are proof that looks matter, even in the animal kingdom. Possums are actually decent creatures, but they’re ugly as fuck so everyone hates them. Raccoons on the other hand, are nasty little fuckers but they’re cute so people try to pet them - only to get jacked up by them.
