Jalen Hurts Wants 45 Million Per Year Deal

Only if there's demand
There are a bunch of teams with shitty QBs. Carr would be an improvement for them. Texans, Giants (assuming they don't pay Daniel Jones), Commanders (assuming they cut Wentz), and Falcons all have a need and the space to sign him. Jets need to do some work on their cap, but they have a need, too. There's a market for Carr.

Texans will draft a qb
Giants will pay jones

I like what I've seen of Jones (although it has been very limited I don't typically watch the Giants) and I think he is a keeper but how much is he worth? I wouldn't shell out 40 million for him.

There will be, you put him on the Jets or Panthers this past season?

They are a playoff team. And once the playoffs begin.....anything can happen.

Yep.

Hell, if they could get the cap space.....Tampa would be an interesting spot with their skill position players.

Agreed.

That doesn't mean they'll pay 40 million for Carr though

Whatever they sign him to, his number next season is $5 million. Cap isn't going down any time soon, and they have a lot of flexibility after 2023.

Dude wants to be paid like a top 5 QB, I think he's earned it.
I mean that's fair but eagles aren't going to be able to maintain loaded roster and pay hurts. Unless you think Philly knows something 31 other teams don't know about managing cap.

Don't get me wrong, I'd pay hurts, but it'll take its toll on roster management. Chiefs were first team ever to win with QB taking up > 13% cap. And hurts is good, mahomes is better

I understand the sticker shock, and I even understand the logic of "if they pay him that, they can't pay any weapons around him". Except, problem is, that's old logic. It's a new age, and salary caps are rising significantly. If you want a top 5 QB (and this year, he is exactly that), then you have to pay these numbers. We saw what the Eagles look like without him, and it's not that pretty.

He may not get $45M/year, but it'll be close and incentivized. He's earned it, and I support/expect the Eagles to pay the man.
Flaw in your logic is that every contract is going up. The additional cap isn't just going to QB.

Philly had better roster than KC in most spots. They were able to do so due paying Hurts tiny amount. They're not always going to have that luxury .

45 would be less than what Rodgers, Wilson, Watson and Murray all recently got per year of their deals.

I’d rather move forward with Hurts than any of them.

Carr will get around 40, from someone, in the next month or so. 45 is what Mahomes got and he’s going to spend almost all of his deal underpaid.
Interesting group of guys. Pretty much all of their teams are screwed too. I dunno about Carr yet, but conventional wisdom says he's not the sure path to a championship either.

He’s definitely not the sure path to a championship.

But he’s an improvement at the most important position, for a number of teams. And all he’ll cost is money.

It’s not very common for a quality QB to hit the open market. Cousins got franchise tagged twice before he became a FA. And then got a fully guaranteed deal because QBs that don’t suck are never Free Agents.

I trust you.

I just really started to follow the NFL a couple of years ago when we became empty-nesters because I didn't have the time before. I had no idea how complex salary caps are and how much "money ball" is actually going on in the NFL.

I could be wrong but it appears to me there are legit guys that can't stay with their current teams because of their salary demands and the caps then on the flip side there are guys out on the field that probably could be replaced by better players because they will take less to play.

Everything to do with an NFL roster is a "money ball' calculation including draft picks and trades. To be honest that stuff is starting to interest me more than most of the games.
Every “cap hit” is partly just an illusion. Almost every deal can be restructured. Unless a team kicks the can down the road enough to where they have to guarantee an entire contract, or offer a no trade option.

And with the cap, it’s not a stagnant number. It grows yearly. The Covid years being an anomaly. It will be over 300 million before the decade ends.

For perspective, the cap has nearly doubled during Matthew Staffords career. Aaron Rodgers rookie year the cap was 85mil. He makes 50mil now. It has nearly tripled during his career.

If Jalen is only asking for 45 per. He will easily get it.

Why wouldn't he get that? He's a stud and just took them to a Super Bowl. I'm surprised it's not more.

@RememberTheKoy why are you hiding here. There's a lot of posters waiting for you to eat your crow.

Carr did not get 40, as I expected.
