Jalen Hurts Wants 45 Million Per Year Deal

Yeah. Where the hell was that kicking all season long?
who knows...but he came through when we needed him and that is kind of all that matters.

I was to the point of thinking we might need a new kicker next season

I would certainly rather have him be a rock star in the big game than being great all season and pulling a "double doink" in the SB.
Well he nearly cost them the Rams game.

Since jalen Carter sacked and then hurried Stafford on back to back plays in a game that should have been over.

Dallas bet that they were good enough to win this year and next, and were very concerned about the rebuild in a couple of years. I'd love to continue being lectured about the salary cap by fans of a team with no Super Bowl titles since its inception.

Oh so close. One more year, same annual average, not quite the guaranteed money. I love that they did this deal. I'm sure it saves a lot of money next season, and then starts to load up. Can stretch it out every year like all NFL contracts do, but a QB who is a threat to roll out quickly loses his value and this contract will stink in 2024. Plus Lane and Kelce are just about on the way out (but their contracts will live on) and when he needs to be mobile the most, his legs will leave him. Now just need the skins to screw up their long term QB situation and the entire NFCE will be on a level field.

Happy Antonio Banderas GIF

You said Hurts contract would stink in 2024 and you apparently stand by that.

Cowboys fans have said for years that the eagles will be in cap hell in a year or two and that never seems to come.
Eagles have been in cap hell for a decade, but still seem to sign guys every year.

He's salty Dallas doesn't spend real money like the eagles do.

It's a much, much better run organization, that's why. Dallas is a good comparator, really. Jalen Hurts is similar to, though maybe 15% better than Dak Prescott. Meanwhile, Dallas overpaid for their guy at $60 mil/yr, whereas Hurts is about $50 mil/yr (and won a Super Bowl). It's a lot easier to find cap space for guys when you don't overvalue them.

One thing the eagles do well is extend guys early before the market increases.

Apparently Stafford wants 50 million. More than the SB MVP.

😬

2023 cap: $224.8 million. With 7% increases (standard from their previous new TV deal), that's $239.7 in 2024, $256.5 in 2025, $274.4 in 2026, and $293.6 in 2027. 2028 would then be $314.2M.

I don't think that these will be the exact numbers, but this mirrors 2014-2020, where the cap went up roughly 7% (a flat 7% increase from 2014 to 2020 would have led to a 2020 cap of $199.6, it wound up being $198.2, NFL Cap History).

I agree that there is risk, but the Eagles have been willing to take the risk and also do what is necessary to clean it up in the event it doesn't work. So I am content to roll with it.

Record dollar increase, record percentage increase, and more than front offices and salary cap websites projected.

2025 cap going up by around 10% over 2024, and will be higher than my guesses for 2026 (made before the 2024 spike was announced). I do think this will temper down some as we go forward, but it looks like Howie's roll of the dice worked on both the short and long term aspects (short- win a SB with Hurts, long- cap numbers will be plenty high to absorb the back end payouts).

I think there are new TV deals in 2028 which are likely to lead to a bit of a spike.

Trade Stafford and Kupp

Let’s get it on

Dallas currently sits $3 million over the cap (obviously an easy number to get under), Philly has $17 million in space and a Lombardi to defend. I think we'll manage through this crisis.
