Jared Goff will likely start for the Lions after blockbuster trade.

Will he have competition after the Lions reach for QB in first round?

Discuss.
 
he'll definitely be the starter year one.

No one's gonna park that contract on the bench for an unknown.

Now if he is sucking real bad later in the season, they might consider making the change, but I think he starts all of the 1st year barring injury.
Let the newbie fight for it the next year.
 
He'll start, probably be bad and the Lions will have a top 5 pick the following draft to get their new QBoF.
 
Lions won’t draft a QB. It will take them 3 off seasons to rebuild the Rams in Detroit and compete for the NFC title. Goff, Swift, Hockenson, an above average O line and a new WR corps combined with a monster defense built on the back of those 5 1st rounders we have over the next 3 drafts.

If Goff struggles and fails to emerge in his prime years they target a QB, but I think they’re gambling that he might be the guy.

I don't blame them considering where they were at...you get two 1st's for an aging QB then you get a fairly young QB still that hasn't lived up to the hype but if you build a team around him has shown he can do enough to get you deep in the playoffs. Worst thing is he doesn't workout and they get 2 1st's...Stafford wasn't going to take this team to the promised land regardless.
