Jason Hayward is alive!!!

It’s Heyward. The second most hyped Braves prospect I can remember. Some Braves fan OP is

You millennials won't remember it, but Ryan Klesko had MASSIVE hype. He was hitting tons of homers all through the minors & they were never cheap ones. 450+ footers more often than not.

Disappointing as a hitter (though he was a pretty good hitter in his first 6 seasons), but one of the better defensive players of my lifetime. He's still put up 35+ WAR, that's a very solid career.

He was over 40 bWAR last I checked, which shocked me. People say he’s a bust, but a bust doesn’t break 40 WAR and get 15 years in the bigs

If you had told me in 2010 he'd be a 40 WAR player, I would have completely agreed. Just not the path I would have expected. Especially with how his rookie year went, I thought he was going to be an elite hitter for years. Never really approached his OPS+ that year (unless you include the shortened 2020 season), and that rookie year ended up with his highest walk total by 23. Weird seeing someone set a career high in walks in their rookie season, especially at that age

His rookie season, I thought we had a future first ballot HOFer. I’ll never forget his 3 run homer in his first career PA.

Jordan Schafer was another top prospect in our system a couple years prior, he also homered in his first career AB, but he and Heyward wound up having very different career paths
