Will be interesting to see if WV sticks with Brown. Could Jimbo head back home? When asked if he would ever consider returning to coach the Mountaineers, Fisher said the following: “You don’t ever say never in this business. Home is home. I love West Virginia and it’s very near and dear to my heart. I love them and have always rooted for them my whole life. You never say never in this business where it takes you. I’m happy where I’m at and I love where I’m at, but home is home.”

Well, Jimbo is no longer "where he is at" and is walking away with $75 mil

Would make a lot of sense for them as a splashy hire. He could win consistently in the new Big 12.

I disagree. Jimbo is very old school pro-set and WV is going to need an offensive innovator at the helm.

Jimbo refuses to change and that’s his problem. The same is true for Malzahn. Once you have their scheme down it’s a lot easier to defend against them. To be successful both need a dynamic QB and those are hard to find.

He could get the recruits, and the boosters would be behind him for what he'd need monetarily. They're desperate to get back to winning. From a coaching standpoint, he definitely leaves a lot to be desired, but he'd also have the money to get higher end coordinators, which should be enough in the new Big 12.

Can Jimbo go coach elsewhere without fucking up his buyout?

I ain’t throwing away 75 mil to go to Morgantown, no offense

If you gave me $75mil, there's no chance in hell you'd ever see me on the sidelines - or anywhere else for that matter - ever again.

He has the recruits now and they aren't the problem his offensive philosophy is.

Jimbo needs to take his money and retire from coaching and see if he can get a gig as an analyst otherwise just enjoy life. He had a great career but its time to hand it up.

Bingo

He has fuck you money so why put up with the shit. By now he has to have 100mm in the bank and a net worth probably north of 150mm.

Why answer to anyone if you don't have to? If you want to be part of the game then take a job as TV analyst or go work for Saban and break down film.

I'd argue he had a great collegiate QB one time named Jameis Winston, whom without, Jimbo would have nothing to show for his entire career.

He won a natty as the OC at LSU with Saban. There are a lot of guys in CFB that haven't had the career Jimbo had so I wouldn't hate on him too much.

That team didn't win the NC because of offense. They weren't even top 30 in total offense that year. They were, however, #1 in total defense and scoring defense. There are a lot of guys in CFB who haven't had his career, but I'd also comfortably argue there are a lot of coaches who could've won a NC with that FSU team.

There are a lot of coaches that would have won a NC with at least one of Ryan Day's teams but he hasn't been able to do it. The dude had Justin Fields and CJ Stroud.

Just saying.

Ryan Day isn't commanding a $76m buyout and wildly underachieving so I'm not sure what your point is.

but what if they were also offering you another $75mil? There's rarely a point where somebody that is at that level walks away from big money for doing the thing they love.

Can't just flip the switch and golf every day living off the interest... you'd just die of boredom.

I agree. I'd golf, smoke various different meats, and drink whiskey every day. I'll die of several things before boredom.

You said there are many coaches that could have won a natty with Jimbo's FSU team.
I pointed out there are many coaches that could have won a natty with one of Day's team but he hasn't

Think about it for a while and I think the point will come to you. I hate to connect all the dots for you as I think it's helpful to the learning impaired to work for it a bit.

Again, Ryan Day isn't grossly underperforming to the point he's being fired so the two situations aren't comparable. If you think you're making a point, you have fallen well short.

what if I told you that you could do all those things and still make another $75mil?
If I had $75m, you couldn't tempt me with more money if it meant I had to work. What am I going to do with another $75m that I can't do with my current $75m?

There is apparently no offset language in his contract, so wherever he goes he will still be guaranteed that figure. I'd do it if I was WVU. You can get him for cheap, he's still a good coach IMO, and it's a pretty good fit IMO. He'd do well in the Big 12.
