Got a couple of the floor AC units from the local Little League. Being a board member has its perks. Kids slept fine in their rooms with just fans. My parents have a couple more ACs we may be able to use in the meantime, as well.

Thinking about contacting the manufacturer of the AC unit to see if they can either get their own people out here or put more pressure on the company that installed and serviced the unit. My attempt at fixing it was to replace the capacitor, but that didn't do it. It's also very possible that the thing took a shit overnight on Sunday into Monday and we didn't notice soon enough, and now the compressor is fucked too.

I did the capacitor on mine last summer...thankfully that is all it was that needed to be fixed.

I wish you luck. Thankfully it isn't the middle of the heat wave we had last week.

Yeah, it's gonna suck. Might try a different capacitor (my unit had a 2-terminal unit, the only place I could find open after 4PM that had any capacitors had a three-terminal capacitor) later today. The compressor was still hot to the touch last night when I had the whole thing apart. I don't have much hope that it's not royally fucked at this point.

@Bender this unit is less than 5 years old. The system we put in when we bought the house was still working (11-ish year old unit), but there was something fucky with it (I forget exactly, but apparently it became a class action lawsuit against Carrier because of a defect on their end). Rather than wait for the thing to die, we replaced the whole system. And now the new one died.

Finally I can post this:

It's pretty awesome for this first 6 minutes, and then they didn't know how to end it

3 meetings in a row coming up. Happy Tuesday.. At least it is a short week and I have Friday off

morning all

I'm not sure how old our AC unit it, I think it's going on 20+ years. We've been expecting it to die any summer now since we bought the place, but so far so good and we'll run it until it dies. But wouldn't even bother trying to get it fixed if it goes

my neighbor from my first house is up for sale, it's completely empty inside.

He was only ~10 years older than me, hopefully he's not dead

Is it doing anything when you turn it on? Buzzing/humming?

Could be a contact switch as well.

i bought my house sans inspection, so i have no idea how old anything is. and everything is always way more than google tells me it should cost. last fix was the motor for the well pump.

and i'm just holding out on driving to the metro because i think i'm going to wind up at a random bar until the nats game tonight and that'd be a lot of pregaming.

museums or drinks. i think i know which one is going to win out.

well, time to die

Custom closet crew wrapped up this morning. They took over the whole house yesterday. Worst part about building a new house are all the freaking tradesmen who walk through it.
