Tim Brando tried to have a point about Duggan not going to Iowa State, Iowa or Nebraska and how they would all love him now due to QB troubles. Of course, Brando forgets that ISU just had Brock Purdy for four years as a two-time All-Big Xii QB. 'Twould be nice to have Duggan for this one year, but Dekkers was a Mr. Iowa QB too and still has more eligibility and will be fine. Nice try Timmy Boy, but not as deep of a thought as you thought you were making as far as ISU goes. Did I mention, ISU has a current three game winning streak over TCU?
Yep! Players don't all want to go to the closest school(s) to them, and those schools might already have that position covered. If Duggan would have come to Ames in 2019, he wouldn't have been a starter until this year doing mop up duty behind Brock Purdy. Most players don't want to go somewhere and sit on the bench for 3 years. Meanwhile, at T.C.U. he was able to be a starter before this year. Lost a game to Iowa State as a starter to boot. Just not a very deep thought by Brando. It wasn't nefarious or snarky, but it just wasn't very deep and didn't translate as well as he thought it might from brain to mouth. Should have just kept that thought to himself.Max Duggan wanted to go to ND but they didn't offer. Apparently no one but TCU offered him. But what Brando left out was TCU brought in Chandler Morris to replace Duggan. I'm guessing he's out for the season so it's on Duggan and congrats to him for being the one Big 12 starting QB to not miss time due to injury. It helps that the defense that tries to injure QB'S sees he has a red jersey in practice but whatever.
Yeah, they ain't going to sit around and wait patiently. Mayfield, Murray and Hurts have made me rethink the college QB position....and maybe some others. I'm beginning to believe to hell with QBs right out of high school. Let 'em get kicked around and humbled a little somewhere else. Then when they've matured get 'em out of the transfer portal and let 'em flourish.Yep! Look at Martinez. He's probably mentally stronger from those experiences at Nebby. And Nix at Oregon. He's stronger mentally from getting kicked around at Aubie. The kid at LSU yesterday. Seems like a lot of 'em just need an "edit undo" button.
No doubt coaching helps...especially good QB coaching. But Mayfield and Murray were much more mature when they arrived at OU than they were at Tech and A&M. Hurts, not so much. But he was very mature when he made his way to OU and the experience at Bama helped.I think it helps when they have coaches that can get everybody else around them on offense lined up correctly.
