"This is the first case at Northwestern Medicine where a patient was awake during an entire kidney transplant procedure and went home the next day, basically making this an outpatient procedure," Dr. Satish Nadig, one of the transplant surgeons at Northwestern Medicine who performed the procedure, said in the release. "Our hope is that awake kidney transplantation can decrease some of the risks of general anesthesia while also shortening a patient’s hospital stay."

I want to be totally 'knocked out' before undergoing any surgery.

Imagine having to listen all those corny "doctor/nurse" jokes like they were in a MASH tent? :twitch:

And yet we're still sticking fingers up bungholes for exams.

man...you and me both. I was asked if I wanted to watch my own colonoscopy and I was like...no. I don't want to see what's up there.

You may want to get with a different Doctor. And it may not be a finger. Just saying.

They aren't doing that anymore you just pee in a cup now.

Great time to be alive and hit 50.

When I had mine removed, they sent me home the next day. I was so pissed at them for that. They kept giving me this BS about how "patients recover faster in their home environment" and so forth. I tell you I was in PAIN, and once that anesthesia wore off, I was cursing them for all I was worth.

Meh. Dudes been getting their kidneys removed in Vegas bathtubs for years.
