It was later reported this kid is special needs. He's on the spectrum. They should realize the size of this kid and realize he may need someone to guard him from harming others. If on the spectrum he may not know he shouldn't beat the teacher's aid to death for taking his electronic device away.

So being on the spectrum is something they are going to lean heavily on as a defense to try and get him tried as a youthful offender because right now they are going after him as an adult.

No I’m not clueless. My wife is an educator and many of her closest friends are special Ed teachers so I’m pretty well versed on the subject.

Being on the spectrum or any mental illness is not a license to beat the shit out of someone. If the person is a danger to society they have to be removed to prison or some type of institution.

If the kid was mainstreamed into the school classes then he has to follow the rules and a teacher has the right to confiscate his device.

If his learning disability was so great he needed a full time aide then one would have been provided.

That was an unacceptable beat down no matter what the circumstances and your typically “you’re a dummy” BS doesn’t change that.

They are not fucking stupid, in fact, often it's quite the opposite. One of my best buds' oldest son has autism, and he is a very good artist, and frankly an awesome kid to be around. Very well versed in history, particularly WWII.

It's not a free pass to do anything they fucking feel like and get away with it. Just as with anyone, their support system and parenting, or lack thereof can have a major impact on their behavior. This kid's behavior is unacceptable for his age, autism or not, and there is not an autism expert in the world that would disagree. Does it give him a little leeway? Maybe, but it is not an outright excuse.

If he kills someone, do we just shrug it off, cuz he's autistic? Of course not. Might he get a lighter sentence? Possibly. But he would still be punished.

Again, at his age, if he "does not know", that would fall much more into the lack of parenting and moral support category, than it would autism.
