Muschamp is going to take Lannings spot at UGA
Fake news ... Schuman and Champ are co-DCs. That said, Cristobal is making a rum a Schuman. Champ has been an on the field coach as the STs coach. He replaced Scott Cochran who left the team for "mental health and well-being" reasons, believed to be some dependency issues but never confirmed.
If they both stay, that's an awesome co-DC. We can agree that Champ is not a good HC, but no one has ever said he isn't an elite DC. Saban tried to hire him on several occasions. He's collecting money from USCjr, loves being in Athens where his son is a WO at UGA, and his younger son is enjoying high school. He's an elite recruiter on D, and I have a feeling it will be a while before he gets another HC job. He doesn't need the money ... between UF and USCjr he banked in excess of $30 million, and he was well paid as a DC for many years before.
Schuman has been with CKS for about 10 years at Bama and then UGA. He's a bright mind, and I'd love to see him stay at UGA. Can't imagine he'd prefer to go to Miami instead of stay at UGA. Be the co-DC for 3-5 years and follow what Tucker and Lanning have done.
One additional interesting note is that there is some buzz about Bobo to UGA as an O analyst. He was let go by Auburn after 1 year as the OC. He was OC under Champ at USCjr, and Smart, Champ and Bobo are all great personal friends who played at UGA together for a few overlapping years. I don't want Bobo as OC, but as an analyst he is fine.
When Bobo moves back to Athens there will then be 7 HC or past HCs living in Athens:
Vince Dooley
Ray Goff
Jim Donnan
Mark Richt
Kirby Smart
Wil Muschamp
Mike Bobo
That has to be some type of record.
