Ironically, having a bunch of opt outs can help certain teams in the long run. For example, If Alabama has a bunch of opt outs, they will have some players shooting for starting jobs next year. Milroe playing against K-State can only help make him better next year. I bet deep down, Saban doesn't mind that.

I know it helps teams give players for the upcoming year experience or give the staff a chance to see how a player does under the spotlight -- but it makes many of the games unwatchable and isn't a true reflection of the teams that year.

I agree 100%. Sucks for the fans. I have been to 44 Bowls, but I am basically done. Unless I just happen to be somewhere with a game (visiting family in FL or something like that), I'll never make the effort to go to one again.

Yeah. I am going to be 4.5 hours from Jacksonville over Christmas break. Thought about going to the Gator Bowl.
 
Felt appropriate to put this here,

but it still feels so fucking weird to be getting national championship ticket request emails from the Athletic Department
 
Just curious here. I wonder how much ticket sales to these bowl games suffer when these players sit out.

I live in Tampa and my son lives in Orlando, so 4-5 bowls are feasible, but it would take some motivation for me to want to go.

If I lived in either city (even now), I would definitely go to the NYD Bowl annually. I'd enjoy either of the matchups (LSU vs. Purdue) / (Miss. State vs. Illinois) this year.

As it is, I have been to 6 Tangerine-Citrus-Capital One Bowls in Orlando (1977, 1980, 1981, 1993, 2011 and 2020) and 2 Hall of Fame Bowls (1991 and 1992) in Tampa.

The secondary Bowls in both cities would depend on who, when, weather, etc.
 
Every year I talk about going to a Pinstripe Bowl but something always gets in the way. This year we'll be up in Vermont

I've been to Yankee Stadium (old and new) for baseball, but I haven't been to the Pinstripe Bowl. When ISU played there in 2011 as a (6-6) team vs. Rutgers (8-4), I knew which way that train was going, so I avoided that.

Cyclones sold all of their tickets though and were repped well at least. New Yorkers were probably like: *Why are there a bunch of people with cardinal and gold shirts and hats getting in my way?*

I love NYC, but I'd rather go with it not revolving around an ISU Bowl Game. If I lived there though, I'd try to go if it was a day game and the weather was nice. Game day decision!

Definitely. Some years the weather hasn't cooperated, and no way I'm going to sit in the Bronx for four hours and freeze my touchas off
 
The game is of no real consequence to the rest of college football but it's going to be interesting to see if Oklahoma can win a game against a better team like Florida State. I doubt they can. If we end up 6-7 things are going to be seriously messed up in Norman. The coaching staff kept saying they weren't doing a very good job this season every time they lost a game and I'm inclined to believe it's a bad sign when the team is playing as bad if not worse at the end of the year as it was when the wheels first came off in the fourth game of the season. A bad season is not a good thing but if we lose our bowl game too very few OU fans are going to be in a patient mood next year if the losses keep piling up.

I've thought about the Miss St-Illinois game, but I'm getting two Christmas grandbabies this year, one before and one after, so I'm not sure the time will present itself. I've hit a few Hall of Fame/Outback Bowls, but only the Alabama/Michigan game and the recent Auburn Outback Bowls(son went to Auburn). Same with the Citrus if either is playing. My daughter went to FSU, so I might have hit the Cheez-It this year, but she is due in early January in Tenn, so not gonna happen.

Do Iowa teams not rep well, ever? I always know when Iowa is in a Tampa bowl, because while there are a few Iowa Snowbirds, it is an outright invasion for bowl week. I'm sure it has been the same in Orlando for the last couple of Iowa State games.
