17 of the 23 years 25 TEs has been taken in the 1st round. You would think the NFL would stop falling for the cant miss TE, especially in the early 1st round.

So while I think it is a good fit & move for the Vikes to land Hockenson. It is a good recovery move by the Lions to get a 2nd rd pick for a TE. (they used a 1st on)
This dumb fucking franchise picked two of these dopes

thats pretty good.
I didnt have your stats but was thinking early 3rd round for bang for buck.
So your late 2nd to the 3rd rounds sound pretty spot on. To where my thoughts were at. Witten was a 3rd, Doug Cosbie was a 3rd

I cringe at the idea of Cowboys taking a TE before the 3rd.
Gavin Escobar (2nd)
Anthony Fasano (2nd)
David LaFleur (1st)
Kendell Watkins (2nd) Who?
Todd Christensen (2nd) but we traded away. (that was 1978)
Got to go all the way back to 1973 before Cowboys had a quality TE from the 1st two rounds.
Billy Joe Dupree (1st)
Gavin Escobar wasn’t good at rock climbing either. RIP

It would have been a better move for the Lions to keep a Pro Bowl calibre TE, who is 25 years old and having his best season as a pro this year...

Like, you spent the top pick, he panned out decently at least, you have close to ten more years to keep him as a key piece.

Hockenson said he enjoyed his time in Detroit but is looking forward to “going back to the Midwest in MN.”

Iowa education. 😏

My understanding. He tried to get a long term deal & the Lions werent planning on giving him a big deal. Why lose all leverage on a trade to keep him another year.
Getting a 2nd round+ is an excellent deal for the Lions for a TE.
Also a good move for the Vikes. He plays into their type of offense.
This is one of those trades that probably work out for all three parties.

Luckily his time in Detroit should prepare him well for Minneapolis.

The Lions took a TE in R4 last year and at the time, the word already was that they were probably not signing him long-term. I never saw him as a top paid TE.

But I’m still not crazy about trading away picks with him.

I think the Hockenson trade was good for both teams
I think the Chubb trade was good for both teams
I think the Claypool trade, the Steelers raped the bears & should go to jail.

You weren't a Hockenson fan? I always thought he had more potential than the Lions got out of him.

No. The year they took him is the last yet I had a draft party. Awful memories.

He’s not a bad player, and he probably will play better in MN, but he was sold to us as this generational blocker, and he never once blocked anybody in Detroit. You expect more from a top 10 pick.
