List your Mt. Rushmore of 80's rock bands

I've never seen U2 live and I'm not sure I would, but that's just because I feel like they're more of a studio band. I do think they have a fair number of awesome tunes though, and their album Achtung Baby is fucking great.
I was never a fan until I saw them live

Love em. They were in that late 80’s/early 90’s era and was iffy on which decade I’d most strongly associate em with. Seen em multiple times and the bass player’s nephew was in my graduating class in high school. We were friends in school, but lost touch after graduation
Feel the same way about the Black Crowes. They started in the mid 80's but really are considered a 90's band

Same with Van Halen and Rush.

Nah...both those bands had major successes in the 80's. Rush's moving pictures is their largest selling album.

Aerosmith's commercial success was bigger in the 80's but I think their best music was in the 70's

Agree. I think their best album was their first one ... titled Aerosmith. It was just raw rock and sounded like it was recorded in their garage. What a fun album.

Hard to pin down the criteria on this one, but these two seem to fit for me:

The Police
Talking Heads
I like the Talking Heads because they were so innovative. The Police? Great band I just couldn't get 'em

Popularity doesn't mean it was their best album.

I was going to explicitly cite 1982 as the cutoff for many 70's bands who fell off in the 80's. Rock music got really gay in the '80s after 1982.

Van Halen
U2
Aerosmith
AC/DC

Trump Head option - Twisted Sister

Meh, that is debatable. There was a clear trend with the hair bands no question. But there was also some pretty righteous stuff happening with metal that is hard to dismiss

If you're including metal in this conversation, then, yes, my comment needs an asterisk.
