My real condolences to your brother-in-law.
And my fake condolences to your wife.
True story. I was principal/ superintendent at a farming community where there were 3 brothers and a sister in one farming family. All four of them had 2-3 kids over a span of only 6-8 years. Oldest of the cousins decided to attend A&M and thus the other cousins followed suit. When the third one graduated and was heading to A&M, the four parents decided to buy a four bedroom two bath house to share housing costs….which didn’t set real well with the girls since, according to them, the boy cousins were “slobs”.
When the last one was getting ready to graduate I asked him one day at lunch if he was going to A&M. He said nope. When I asked him where he was going he said UT. I said I didn’t think that would go over too well with the rest if the family. He said “That’s why I’m going to UT. I don’t really like UT that much but it’ll piss ‘em all off. All I’ve heard for eight years is A&M this, A&M that, blah, blah, blah.”
He ended up going to USC and is in the movie/television business. He’s even more of a black sheep now.
