Special Olympics athlete Chris Nikic crossed the finish line on Saturday to become the first person with Down syndrome to complete an Ironman triathlon.

Guiness World Records recognized Nikic's achievement after he finished a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-marathon run at the Ironman Florida competition in Panama City Beach.

Good on him. I like triathlon. But I’ll never bother with a full Ironman. 70.3 is my limit.

I feel like there are some truly insane people out there doing some of those "races"

the ultramarathoners terrify me.

Yeah, a lady I worked with was into those ultramarathons. She should me pics of one 50-miler she did in a snowstorm. Says it too her something like 18-19 hours to complete. Like only 9 people finished. I just shook my head.

My brother has done a couple 50+ milers. His toes are fucked up

i teared up a bit. love shit like this. i posted my friends brothers special olympics stuff (he hit a half court shot in the special olympics, made ESPN)

Yeah, a guy I was stationed with years ago was into them and would say the trick is to run with the weight on your toes. I asked how the hell does that not mess your feet up. He just shrugged.

He's more of a bad ass than me. That isn't saying much but that's pretty cool

Good for him.

I’ll never understand people that run for fun. If you see me running, there’s something chasing me that a .45 won’t bring down.

I don’t run “for fun”, but I do run pretty much every day. When you get older and your metabolism slows down, you’ll understand why.

That reminds me of something I saw on the internets. Coulda even been here.

2020 is the first year that I didn't run the London Marathon because of Coronavirus. Usually I don't participate because I'm fat and can't run.

Step dad has a nephew that is probably in his mid 50s now. Always been an absolute pleasure to be around. Guess he was at a wedding recently, and danced the whole night, with every woman in the place.

Love the downs people. They are like our British bull dogs. Kinda fucked on the genetics, need some special treatment and help, but make up for it in personality, and perspective.

while I think this is a great story and I am really happy for him...

is it bad that I laughed at this part?

Nikic fell off his bike and was attacked by ants at a nutrition stop, but he pushed on to finish the competition, the Special Olympics said in a release.

What's the purpose of being tethered?
In case he wanders off into a crowd and gets lost? Nah, seriously it's a great achievement; difficult for anyone. I can't even run a half-marathon anymore.
