Boulder County fires tonight decimate 600 homes at last count in Louisville and Superior Colorado. Sustained winds of 50 mph and gusts over 110mph. Just devastating.

Winds finally subsiding. These fires basically popped up this afternoon and just went crazy. Nothing could be done other than evacuate. No deaths reported as yet.

Last month I posted that I would much prefer to deal with a hurricane than a tornado.

I think I would prefer to deal with a hurricane than these wildfires also.

We've only had 1.5" of rain since June 1st and zero snow. Supposed to get 3-8" of snow tomorrow. A day late.

Makes me sick thinking of so many folks losing everything they may have worked their entire lives acquiring...up in smoke! It's the family mementos and photos, maybe items or awards, and memories...precious to the owners....all up in smoke. That's the part that sucks the most.
Me too. You leave for work with no worries and within just a few hours everything is gone, including your pets.

Vacationed there a few years ago, and I swear I stayed in a hotel overlooking that one that burned down in the first pic. Just awful to see this kind of thing.

When people talk about natural disasters in California, they always talk about earthquakes. In the 48 years I lived there, I never worried about earthquakes. Over the last ten years there, I worried about fires every year.

We have a cabin in Glen Haven near Estes Park. Wildfires are always on your mind during the dry summers here, but not in December in urban areas.

It’s been so dry. Typically, it’s like September when you get nervous. It’s crazy to have fires a couple of days before New Years.

I remember those "Santa Ana Winds" when I lived there 1966-1989 in Orange County. They were the driest winds I've experienced. My Mom lived and had her horses out in Hemet and Temecula, CA. and those winds blew right thru and there always were some fires in the distance. Had her Dodge Ram 4x4 and her two horse trailer "at the ready" during the fire season.

I know it's worse nowadays, but it seemed like there were the super dry (drought) years and then it became wet (rainy) for a few years. Alternating back & forth. Droughts or floods... :twitch:

A woman I went to HS with was impacted by this. She's in London right now, all the shit at her house is gone, lost one of her two cats. Apparently a friend of hers was able to get the one cat, but couldn't get the photography stuff and printing stuff that she uses for her freelance photography gig.

Yeah that really sucks. The devastation is crazy. I seriously feel so bad for those affected. Helluva a way to have to start a new year. :tsk:

GOOD Vibes to ALL affected by this!
