Massive layoff at A&M

I knew a guy in Tulsa who was facing the expected fallout from a staff reduction at a pretty good sized company. So he gave every employee a letter and a stub at the bottom. It said "The company must reduce its number of employees in order to streamline operations and improve our operating results. Please vote on which option you prefer we use to accomplish that goal. (A) Use a lottery. (B) Base everything on merit reviews. This is America; tell us your preference by putting your vote in the Suggestion Box". The merit reviews won in a landslide.
In most schools the reduction in force policy requires an order to follow and #2 is performance. Which didn’t/doesn’t always sit well with some board members and administrators. In order the criteria are certification, performance and seniority.
