Matt Rhule to Nebraska week

This is one of those hires that could be or could not be a good hire.

Probably means it is a good hire. We will see.

How will one define whether he is a good hire or not? In other words, what are the expectations he will be asked to meet?

Slightly above .500 college Head Coach. Another Mike Riley?

If you factor in that it takes a couple of years to recruit and train players that fit your system, those numbers are impressive. It's not like he inherited Bama level talent at Temple and Baylor.

Comparing him to Mike Riley isn’t really fair. It’s actually kinda dickish tbh.

In a span of 6-7 yrs, Rhule basically brought two football programs back from the dead. Dude can coach.

Obviously get back to bowling.
Win the Big 10 West in the next few years and win it on the regular.

Basically start competing for Big 10 titles.

Nobody in the Big 10 West has Nebraska credentials as being a blue blood. Unless of course they keep divisions and USC joins the West when they get here in 2024.

ESPN dudes were hinting at this through several articles I read. No one is emphatically naming Rhule but doing pretty much everything short of that.

There’s smoke.

That's the biggest crock of crap. The majority (probably closer to 90% than a simple majority) of Texas high school coaches would say favorite is either Joey McGuire or Jeff Traylor. It wouldn't even be close. They drew more at last summer's coaches association meeting than the big names did.

Competing for B1G West titles -- I can see happening. Playing in B1G CCG's, I can see. Nebraska can get to being like their rivals (Iowa and Wisconsin) -- trading off who wins the B1G West and gets to be the underdog to the B1G East champ.

Winning B1G titles is a tall ask when you have 3 teams in the East bringing in more talented recruiting classes every year and one of them recruiting at the level no other team in the B1G will ever consistently achieve (Ohio State).

I think the more important detail is that he took two programs from rock bottom and made them double-digit winners in just a couple of years.

But by all means, feel free to say no
