Matt Ryan to the Colts

Imagine you are some sort of brilliant GM tactician, à la Kevin Costner in that awful movie where he saves the Browns. But the QBs you have to work with are guys like Mayfield, Wentz, Ryan and Garoppolo. If you land any of these guys, at the end of the day, do you go home happy?
Nope! Wouldn't be happy. That said, there's not much for QBs in the entire NFL I would be happy with right now. Having the QB who just took me to the Super Bowl while on his rookie contract would make me happy; that's pretty much the "list" right there.

Ryan is basically Rivers all over again

Indy was in playoff contention with Wentz. The question is, Ryan or Wentz? And the QB really isn't asked to carry Indy's offense.

I think Rivers out of retirement would be an upgrade from Ryan.

Wentz must be the biggest douche in the league, because this is not an improvement.

Colts on the hook for cap numbers of like $27M this year and $28M next year. Not too bad, actually.
I like the move from the Colts' standpoint. They should have been in the playoffs this year and it's amazing they weren't. Ryan could easily get them that extra win so they essentially are buying a slot in the playoffs.

And yet, it's a ridiculously overpaid position in the NFL. Consider that Mayfield, Wentz, Ryan and Garoppolo will get something like 4-6x more in salary than what Tyrod Taylor, Trevor Siemian, Trey Lance, and Gardner Minshew will get, despite being only marginally more talented. Owners and GMs are so sheeped into thinking that the "good enough" guy has to come with a pedigree, even if it's one rooted in mediocrity.

At some point, some Ivy League grad is going to develop a version of sabermetrics for pro football, and some wily GM is going to figure out that teams can make better roster choices with payroll by stockpiling quality linemen and talented defenders, rather than lock up one guy for $40 mil/yr to be so-so and pray he's not injured.

Pick up Cam and win the super bowl.
Fah-bulous, dahling!

Hmmmmmm.....Ryan is solid.

He wouldn't have had the game vs the Jags Wentz did.

To build a successful team, you need to start in the trenches and the Falcons have a piss poor o-line and no pass rush. Dimitroff doesn't have a good history when it comes to drafting first round o or d linemen, but one the first round pick needs to be either a pass rusher or and o-lineman.

i legit had no idea Dimitroff was still the GM of the Falcons. I assumed they fired him around the same time they fired Mike Smith in 2014.

True, this is a deep draft at WR.....I wasn't aware of all their needs but they have had a pretty decent FA, haven't they? Noticed they got Hayward and he's a solid CB and a few other guys.

Arthur Blank doesn't have the balls to fire him. Most successful sports venture Blank ever did was sponsor Tony Stewart in NASCAR

Hayward and got Patterson back, but with 62 million in dead money against the cap, can't afford to do much else. CB is the only position group worth bragging about on the team. AJ Terrell was one of the best CBs in the league last year
