The Enter Sandman riff fills me with disgust. I’ll never forget how much I hated that album when I first heard it. The disappointment was limitless.

Initially, when the album first came out, before I knew what anybody else thought about the album, well before it got mainstream popular, I liked that song as easily my favorite song on the album - which is a rather low bar because it's the only song on the album I had a hint of affinity for. As its popularity grew, the less I liked it. It didn't take long for me to never want to hear that song again. And now it's played at every fucking sporting event in the world as one of the go-to "arena rock" songs and I cringe every time I hear it while shouting "can you please play a different fucking Metallica song!?!"

Today, I'd much rather listen to Whiplash, but if I strip out all of the trash and weariness around Enter Sandman and try to be honest with myself about which song is truly better, the needle slightly leans to Enter Sandman. It's looking like Fade to Black is going to match up with Enter Sandman in the next round and Fade to Black is a no-doubter crusher of Enter Sandman for me.

Boring song. Whiplash my favorite song on the first album
 
I have seen a you tube version of Enter Sandman where someone remastered it to be what it would sounded like on Justice album. Far better version.
