COVID and streaming options have absolutely killed the theater experience for me.

Hey, would you like to pay $70 for 3 tickets and snacks to sit in a seat less comfortable than your couch 50' from a huge screen that is essentially the same as sitting 10' from my 70" screen, surrounded by fucking idiots who won't shut up? nope

Yep. After that initial "good to be able to go to these again" time passed I think for every movie I've had this exact thought. Top Gun has been the exception because that needed to be experienced in theaters but other than that I think it's just been whenever it comes out on streaming I'll see it then.

Walking into Lightyear with our dump truck of popcorn and bucket of soda we thought: "this is cool to be doing this again"...

Walking out of Lightyear disappointed in the movie, our surroundings, and the quality of the popcorn we thought: "when's that next movie you want to see going to be available to stream?"

Hell, we even signed up for Peacock because the wife wanted to see Downton Abbey and not at the theater. Sadly though I think we're going to have to experience the theater one more time for Thor.

Get an Atmos sound system and upgrade a media room to a 120" projector. They are wildly fulfilling for that bigger screen feel

one thing i was reminded i hate about going to the movies is the previews which seem endless and half the time give away an entire movie.

We don't see a ton of movies in the theater, but we didn't stop during COVID. Local Cinemark theater offered Private Watch Parties, where you rented out an entire theater for either $150 or $250, depending on if the movie was a classic or a new release. We did that a few times and I really liked that. Wish we could still do it.

We joined the Cinemark movie club. It's $9 or so a month, you get one free ticket a month and they carry over if you don't use them, plus you get 20% off all concessions. With a family of 5, it doesn't take too many visits for it to pay for itself.

Absolutely. I hate watching a movie only to find that all the funny parts were included in the trailer.

We did this for my daughter's bday back in January.

It was a great experience, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
 
One thing I don't like about theaters these days is assigned seating.

I mean, it's good if you know what day/time you're going and who you're going with, but it also takes the spontaneity out of movie going. For example, you've got nothing going on one afternoon and think you'll go to a movie, but all the good seats are taken. Or, you're going to see a movie and run into a friend who would like to join you, but you can't sit together.

It'd be dumb not to chase whatever sort of revenue they can right now, as I think their numbers have still got to be waaay lower than pre-covid.:shrug:
