I agree with your concern regarding the defense's inability to adjust in the first half. They obviously did in the second half. But, you can't wait until halftime to make those adjustments. That said, holding a Leach team to 24 will get you a win 9 or 10 times. The Good:
We won the game
JT Daniels looked really good
Defense stiffened up a bit in the second half
The Bad:
Took the defense a half to find their footing
Never could get the run game close to going
This game and all remaining UGA games this season are meaningless
Boy, sure would have been cool to see what might have happened with JT Daniels in the game against Florida, but in typical Kirby fashion, he refused to make a move until it was too late.
Props to Miss State though. They came ready to play. Also gotta give credit to their QB, he was on target every throw until the pass rush started getting to him a bit in the second half.
The run game was frustrating, but only because we kept going back to it. They were basically running slants all day, and run blitzing. When they have 8 hats on 5 hats, 8 hats wins. For once we needed the pass game to help the run game, but they kept going back to the run. Perhaps the Pirate wouldn't haven't changed, but then JTD would have throw for another 150 yards.
The rest of the games are meaningful to the team and real fans. I was at the game this weekend and my family and I had a great trip. Athens was fantastic, the weather was nice although a little cold. The rest of the games will be to get to a NY6 bowl game (Cotton or Peach), win that and get lined up for the Clemson game next year. That's not nothing, IMO. The way you look at college football, 99% of the games played are meaningless. I don't get that mentality.
CKS, per JTD's dad did the exact right thing with JTD by not bringing him back too soon. Per people close to the program, Daniels wasn't healthy enough to play. This has been patently obvious to anyone paying attention. But you would have thrown his as to the wolves before he was ready. Its been obvious he hasn't been physically ready. Even last night he was limping on a couple occasions and the staff had to tend to him on the sideline.
MSU definitely came to play, and kudos for coming with so few scholarship players.
