MLB Trade Deadline Thread

OK but I still have the same question. Did any of the connected and knowledgeable tea leaf readers have Seattle getting Castillo? For a package resembling this? I haven't been following super closely but this seems like it was a surprise.
I think MLB trades are harder for insiders to catch wind of. There are so many options available every year that even if someone hears a rumor they can't report on them all. So whoever is the top rental available, that is who everyone focuses on. For everyone else it's always "everyone is for sale and everyone is offering something for everyone else".

My post was meant to be taken as "don't get your hopes up, all of these writers want you to get your hopes up and none of them know shit". Don't know if you went a different way with it :noidea:
I have no hopes.

It's a fact that the Cards bigwigs are in DC and it's also a fact that doesn't happen with them very often.

That doesn't mean anything is going to happen.

It used to be more common for rumors to be true. The Mark Teixeira trade for the Braves was being talked about for a solid month before it happened.

The fanbase and Atlanta media's attention still had tunnel vision for re-signing Freddie Freeman up until the Matt Olson trade was announced, and it was the team that broke the news, not a writer.

And yet despite having less and less info they write and say more and more of this shit every year. And we read and watch it as if they really know what's happening. And if the rumour sounds kinda realistic (and maybe we want it to happen) we say that it seems credible. And if it sounds unrealistic we say that the guy is full of shit.

It was a while ago so I don't remember at all but was Atlanta being talked about uniquely and nationally or was the same detailed trade rumour talk possibly happening in/about other cities/teams as well and you were just focused on the Braves?

It's been 15 years, so I don't remember all the details, but the trade came as no surprise, and Saltalamacchia and Andrus were mentioned as pieces going to Texas before hand too.

I feel like the top players still get the press, like Soto and Tex did.

Yup it wasn't a secret at all. I remember going "shopping" on the Braves farm lists, and arguing on Jizzney with Braves fans who thought we were trading Tex for just one or two low level nobodies.

I definitely remember that the specific prospect package going to Texas was not a huge surprise when Atlanta made the trade, what I don't remember is if they were actively talking about a Philip Hughes/Jose Tabata package on the Yankee boards at the same time and thinking that it was a possibility.

Teixeira was also a hometown guy returning, right?

What have you actually heard about Soto? I'd love to actually hear something real, not "certain anonymous executives from other teams think that these teams might get him". Is there anything?

He played for Georgia Tech in college, but was not a Georgia native. Matt Olson was a true hometown guy coming home, and nobody saw that one coming until it was announced

So are the Reds going to trade Drury, Pham and India if they are going full rebuild?

Cardinals traded their SS Sosa, backup SS really, to the Phillies for JoJo Romero, whoever the fuck that is.
