MLB Trade Deadline Thread

Exactly. Do something. Either buy or sell. I don’t care which. Standing pat with this team shouldn’t be an option on the table.
I want the Rangers to be selling anyone over 30 that can get a return. Instead we are treading water like some clueless losers.

The GM should call David Stearns. He might give you the ranch.

Cardinals send Harrison Bader to the Yankees for Jordan Montgomery.

He's not alone in being robbed by the shift. He's a pure power, pull hitter. That's what the shift eats alive. By banning it he is going to be a much better player next year.
If he’s a power hitter then he shouldn’t be worried what the infield does right.

Truth is, the guy can only hit straight fastballs. Taking the shift away won’t fix that.

HA-ha, sucks to be Hosmer, still won't make the playoffs this year

this trade is meh, though at least the Padres are on the hook for most of his contract. Hosmer's a glorified Casey Kotchman and has just barely been above replacement level since signing that contract (0.3 fWAR in *five* seasons as a Padre; yes, that's his total), but the sad reality is that he actually represents an upgrade over the shitshow that has been Dalbec/Cordero. I just hope we'll get to see Casas soon.

As for the prospects we got back, they look pretty blah. Rosier has an interesting profile with the walks and steals, but he's a 22 y/o in A+ ball hitting .263/.381/.396 (with 33 steals). Not a lot of power, remains to be seen if he can keep drawing walks in the upper minors. Ferguson is another one with walks and steals but seems to have more contact issues and even less pop than Rosier, plus he's struggled in A+. He seems like filler.

Groome was highly touted when the Sox drafted him but he's been derailed by injuries and his velocity has suffered. He's held his own in AA and AAA but the peripherals aren't great. Groome also seemed like he was destined to go in the upcoming 40 man crunch.

You think this holds Casas back at all from getting brought up?

nah. I think he would have been promoted by now if he hadn't gotten hurt a couple of months ago. I expect him up in September.

I don't think Rogers closes, not with Williams there. I also think Hader is fine, take away the games vs Minnesota and San Francisco and his ERA is around 2.
Think we gotta take a few more games away to get that ERA to 2 again now…
