El Paso is very Catholic. Most high schools send several students to Notre Dame every year. My oldest daughter’s best friend and her two younger siblings all went there.

The year Notre Dame played in the Sun Bowl it sold out in 1/2 day. Most years it doesn’t sell out at all.

Syracuse was much better in the 80’s early 90’s and had historically good teams in the 50’s and 60’s (Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Floyd Little, Larry Czonka). Even have a natty in 1959.

HS football isn’t that big in NY though.

Yep, especially in the cities, where there's just not enough room for football fields. Much more space, and fewer equipment requirements, for sports like basketball
