Players back then were getting the biggest contracts they could at the time too. There's a lot things about the modern game that gets on my nerves, but the players getting paid isn't one of them.

... but he is not play at the Juan Soto level. I like a player that will walk more than strike out and it is easier to pitch around him. $440,000,000 over 15 years is a little low (not for me - where do I sign). I have a couple of questions that would be important if I was going to trade for him.
1 error .994 and only 1 assist, but that may mean no one runs on him. I am not criticizing him I don't the the fine points of his game.
