New HC Hiring Thread 2025 Season

Ben Johnson to the Bears. Can’t wait to see how big that contract is but the Bears just infinitely better.

Sorry @RobBase

Wasn’t expecting that but I guess shit is on now.

Ben Johnson, you’re dead to me.

Looking forward to seeing who replaces him.

And I’m 95% we’re getting Max Crosby next year so there’s that.

Ben Johnson, rumors of Dennis Allen as DC.

I gotta admit, I'm touching my cock.

Idunno... The Lions may have gotten better.

This is the entirety of Johnson's coaching career:

1) 100% of that resume up to Bears HC are support roles. He has zero experience being the top dog anywhere. Does he have proper leadership skills for that job?
2) This is the very first branch getting cut off of the "Dan Campbell coaching tree". Does Dan Campbell's influence translate to other voices? Not everyone can sell 'biting kneecaps'.
3) 4th quarter down 10 points with 12 minutes left in the game and 1st & 10 with the ball at midfield, Ben Johnson calls a WR reverse pass that gets picked off (with an ineligible player downfield). This is what the Bears just inherited.

That’s the hope. That Campbell replaces our coordinators with guys who might even be better. Could be worse but being better isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

I just can’t help but think what a healthy team could do regardless of the coordinators.

Having the right coordinators does make a difference. I'm not so sure Johnson is as good as his reputation has been built up to be, though. His play calling style is gimmicky at questionable times despite being offensively proficient without gimmicks. It's very possible that 'gimmicky at questionable times' resonates through to his head coaching decisions.

The Lions have good playmakers on offense. If the new OC stays aggressive without the dumb gimmicky crap, there's no reason to think the Lions won't be the #1 seed in the NFC again next year.

If you are trying to sell me on the Bears still sucking then I’m buying.

Bringing in Dennis Allen would help.

Not sure about the 1 seed, but I feel fairly confident that the Lions will be favs to win the division for the 3rd year in a row.

But even that’s not a sure thing with both Minny & Green Bay expected to continue to improve. Not to mention the Bears who will prob be better too.

Man, I don't think I'd be writing the Bears off so easily. If not for a retarded coach the Bears should've kinda beat up on the division this year.

I think you’ll be greatly improved just not ready to buy you as division winner threats yet. But you never know. The Lions have a BRUTAL schedule next year.

Well, they split with GB, 1-1. (That SHOULD'VE been 2-0. Ridiculous blocked 37 yd goal)

They SHOULD'VE split with yer guys.

And they should've split with Minny.

And I know every fan says shit like that, but in all my years of watching, I have never seen a team lose 4 games (Wash. hail mary) in such a bizarre manner.

I can't blame Johnson for taking the job. Now he has January off.

(Stolen)

Is Johnson worth 6 more wins? That is what it takes to move up.

This year,
3/4 NFC North teams made the playoffs.
0/4 NFC North teams won a playoff game. Despite all the regular season successes in the division, they all equally sucked in January.

It would be a surprise to no one if 3/4 teams in the division make the playoffs again next season. The odd team out may not be the Bears, though.

The Lions and Packers finished about where most people thought they would - despite both teams dealing with significant injuries to key players. The Vikings finished higher than anticipated through a reasonably healthy season and the Bears finished lower than anticipated through faulty leadership and some bad luck. Bears leadership is being addressed and time will tell if it will be an improvement. Luck is a pendulum; it will swing the other way eventually. If luck does swing the other way next year, that would mean the Lions and Packers will be healthier in January and the Vikings would be the team battling through various injuries to key players throughout the season.

We'll see how things play out, but next year should be good for some strong divisional battles again. Gotta not shit the bed in the playoffs next time, though.
