I didn't feel like digging through all the old stuff to find the Pac thread and couldnt remember the exact name. Seems like they are getting things moving.
Still listed or talked about as an autonomy conference amidst the House Settlement hearings. Even if just for that, could help the perception of the conference
Grant of rights signed by all 8 (including Gonzaga) members.
Strong talks of media rights even being well above G5. ESPN, CBS, CW, Fox and Turner all being rumored to be some part of it all. May include ESPN+ and MAX streaming.
After that going for their 8th football school will get going more than rumors which to be fair is probably already happening behind closed doors. Those rumors have UTSA and Texas State leading the way with Memphis still being talked about but less talk of Tulane and USF or any more MW teams (UNLV, NM) or others in the region (NMSU).

I laugh when I see conferences that want to get the Texas eyeballs. I’m from one of the “other” schools in Texas and can speak to reality. All like us know our place…whether we like it or not.

Cold hard fact. Texas and A&M are the eyeball attracters…even when they suck. The others attract the crumbs when they are performing well like Texas Tech softball this year and recent hoops success from Houston/Texas Tech/Baylor. While those crumbs are probably large compared to what crumbs can be attracted from Idaho, they are still not huge.

Even though San Antonio is a large city ( so is El Paso), it is still UTSA. Not sure they move the viewership needle very much.

The money like SMU and Tech are spending can definitely help, they still only draw significant eyeballs when having success.

I think getting games in Texas for recruiting purposes is also a factor.
UTSA is trending down in football right now but still 5 years of success
Texas State better under Kinne.

Im still not convinced Cal and or Stanford arent off the table due to travel but also not expecting that

I don't think it's so much as getting Texas eyeballs, but rather getting in that time zone. As of now it's Wazzu, Oregon State, Gonzaga and the Mtn West schools. This will open up another inventory window for TV. Now you can put a game on at Noon, 3:30, 7:30/8:00 and 10:00/10:30/11:00. I'd try and add UTSA, Memphis and Tulane. If UNLV can't work.

I can see the recruiting reason. But if they are expecting huge increases from the media for Texas viewership, I just don't see it.

I just don't see that much viewership from Texas when they are up against the SEC, B1G, ACC and Big 12 in those time slots. If they could get Memphis or Tulane and those teams are rated and playing against Boise at home, then they might....depending on what those other have offered in those time slots. I'd definitely watch a Boise/Memphis game over a Minnesota/Purdue game at noon.

These networks will be paying for the 9:30/10:00/10:30/11:00 time slots to draw the best ratings. The After Dark aspect of it. That's where they'll want to see 750K+ for those games. My guess is ESPN, FOX(FS1) CBS(CBSSN) and CW will have these rights, as rumored it's to be 4 partners. I'm guessing CW and CBSSN will carry Noon and 3:30 windows and Fox and ESPN will want primetime and late primetime. But either way, my point was that it provides more flexibility to the TV partners.

I can definitely see that. I'm not a media expert by any means. I just don't see a large viewer increase if UTSA and/or Texas State are added to the mix. jmo

I agree. It won't be, but at least this way with a new time zone, they won't be competing against each other in the same conference. And I think there could be a recruiting angle to it as well.

Texas State vs Troy out drew Boise vs Utah State by over 100k and just under 100k more than Fresno vs WSU.

the numbers are never gonna have an M behind the number but nobody expects that. but getting 200k-350K from some of these games is no different than games like Arizona vs UCF, Pitt vs Cinci, UVA vs WF, Baylor vs TT, Maryland vs Minn, WVU vs Arizona, Pitt vs Louisville, SMU vs Virginia, Illinois vs northwestern,

While they may not get that M behind the number, I just don't think it will be as much as they are hoping. Hell, UH is in Houston, TCU in DFW and come close to outdrawing the other two.

Texas State vs. Troy was during the week on ESPN2, Boise State vs. Utah State was relegated to FS2 on a Saturday because MLB postseason. Not exactly the greatest comp. Games during the week are inflated compared to Saturday games because there is no competition.

thats fair but the numbers them selves could still have meaning because it wont surprise me if new Pac has quite a few Thur and Fri games.

It’s not viewership, it’s the recruits. Even your D prospects that are passed over are better than what the west coast has after the top recruits leave for the SEC or Ohio State. Mike Leach rebuilt our program off of Texas recruits.

Well the plus with this new tv deal is Pac 12 after dark will return but since the B1G games are over we will have 3 Pac12 after dark. And since gambling sites are big advertisers, those games are valuable as opposed to earlier

I don’t see a world were Stanford leaves Duke, GaTech, Virginia and the rest of the academia minded ACC to join the likes of Boise and Fresno. Same for them ever joining the B12. It feels like they’d go independent before ever doing that. And that’s not even mentioning the huge pay difference between the ACC and this new PAC on total yearly payout alone.

Cal may eventually come back though.

I can see them putting games on Thursday and Friday. Most the conference do that nowadays except for the SEC. I can see something like a B1G game followed by a P12 game at 10:30 on a Friday on like FS1 or something like that.
