New SEC Alignment

Has it been scheduled? Dates are more difficult to work around than money.

Yeah and that maybe the issue. I was told UTEP is more of a favorable date but Kent State has no buy-out fee.

I maybe wrong but I think all 14 current SEC teams have 4 OOC games and 2 teams scheduled games after the decision with OU and Texas. That is what has me scratching my head and wondering if we may have a year of a 4-8 setup. Something isn't adding up here and I thought somebody on here may have more info...

Rivalries don’t matter anymore. If they did, we’d still get to see Oklahoma vs Nebraska every year.
that is on ou.. you really think the newly formed Big12 didn't want that game to continue? that was easily the 2nd/3rd biggest conference game
Hell, who really has more than two real rivals?
apparently everyone is our rival

Yeah, my guess is that with the exceptions of big P5 games, and the rivalry games at the end of the year, all the G5 and lower games are totally up for being canceled. If you have to pay some money, the SEC will reimburse it. No way they are going to be constrained wit their new scheduling because of a UTEP or UTC game.

Keep in mind in the past major P5 games have been canceled because of that. We canceled home and away with Oregon because of it. tOSU canceled a home and away with us when they expanded. It happens ... that is why I am concerned about the tOSU and UCLA series with us.

The SEC is crazy with the amount of their "rivalries". A rival to them is just someone in their conference they have played for a long time
WTF are you talking about?

You, idiots, have specialized trophies for every freaking game.

That is beyond crazy and gay.

There is no other conference outside of the sec where multiple teams claim 4-5 rivalries

Would you not say that Alabama has rivalries with:

Auburn
LSU
Tennessee

On the flip side Ole Miss considers Miss State, LSU and Alabama to be rivalry games.

Auburn used to have big rivalries with Florida and Tenn until the league split into divisions so that gave us 4. Can’t call those games rilvaries now because how infrequent they play but they are big games.

Auburn legit has Alabama and Georgia and since the split LSU is a really big game.

I would say the average is 3 and you’re grossly over playing it.

Tenn has KY, Vandy and Bama but UGA & Florida are huge

UGA has Tenn, Auburn & Florida

Florida has UGA, TN and FSU

You just don’t have enough good teams to make the shit competitive.

They manufacture “rivalries” or try to. We’ve had more than one LSU fan state they don’t have a single “real” rival.

The SEC (or maybe the networks) tried to force Arkie and later A&M on LSU as a rivals when they joined the conference. Didn’t work. They are trying to create an Arkie/A&M rivalry with Jerry Jones help. Until the pig aggies kidnap Reville or some shit lime that, it ain’t one.

Not sure who the hell they are trying to make Mizzou’s rival(s).

LSU has rivalries with Bama and Ole Miss. I don’t get the Ole Miss thing but there is hate on both sides of that game.

they should make a trophy for the UT vs Auburn game.. it can have an eagle with tiger stripes with longhorns or something

With the newer teams, some of it is forced.

However, there are plenty of deep old rivalries among the 10 original teams in the conference - especially the six traditional power teams: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee - which were split three in each division for a reason in 1992 to try to balance it all out.

Some of the rivalries come and some go, but when these six teams play there is, was, or is going to be some sense of rivalry. As @Wild Turkey stated, Auburn vs. Tennessee and Auburn vs. Florida were real serious rivalries prior to expansion in 1992, and Auburn vs. LSU has become a gem of a rivalry since expansion in 1992. Of course, their annual rivalries with Alabama and Georgia are two of the best in the conference.

Using Alabama as an example, they have played Auburn, Tennessee and LSU every year that I have been following CFB (1971-Present). Auburn and Tennessee are deeply ingrained. One local (AU) with the team that has the best SEC winning percentage vs. the Tide and one border (UT) between the two winningest programs in the history of the conference. LSU has always been a thorn and has became red-hot over-time especially in the post-Bryant Era (1983-Present).

Florida (Spurrier and Meyer Eras) and Georgia (Dooley, Richt and Smart Eras) are just rivalries on a Championship level when they meet in Atlanta (since 1992), but if they don't play it doesn't matter.

Games vs. the other SEC teams don't really mean anything on an annual basis to the Tide, but if they lose one of those game, it matters for a bit! Ole Miss beating the Tide in back to back years (2014 and 2015) made that hot for a minute, but the Rebels have rarely beaten the Tide over time. Alabama worries about Ole Miss for one week a year, but that's about it.

Just my oinion as someone who went to his first SEC Football Game in 1971.

I can't speak for all of the SEC but for Tennessee, here are our rivals:

1. Alabama - This rivalry hasn't been very competitive lately but they are one of our biggest historical rivals and as we saw last year, it is still very intense for both groups

2. Kentucky - This is bigger in Basketball than Football but there are a lot of connections. I would claim Kentucky as Tennessee's second most important rival, especially if you look at all sports. We have also played Kentucky more than any other team and it is in the top 25 when it comes to most played rivalries all-time

3. Vanderbilt - In-state rival and the team we have played the second most. It isn't as big as other games because of the smaller fanbase of Vandy and their historical lack of success. They have won many games recently over Tennessee if you look at last 10 years (although TN has won 4 straight games).

4. Florida - Just football, this would be #2. It is a very tough rivalry because it is more famed for Florida being Tennessee's kryptonite and the fact that Tennessee seems to not do well in this game. Even last year, the game was far closer than it should have been.

5. Georgia - This is more of a recent rivalry but there seems to be a lot of hate here. If the divisions were not breaking up, I would say this would quickly become the SEC East game

6. Auburn - This was once a bigger rivalry but realignment ruined this one. Fanbases still hate each other. Just ask @Wild Turkey what his opinion is of Tennessee

7. Ole Miss - Another annual series for Tennessee broken up by realignment. Frankly, this rivalry is dead and probably shouldn't even make the list

8. Memphis - Bigger in Basketball but a fun in-state rivalry

9. UCONN - Primarily Women's Basketball and really not the same with Summit's passing.

10. LSU - They really don't like us either but I think it is because we are both good SEC programs historically

11. Arkansas - There was a lot of coaching connections between Arkansas and Tennessee. The 1998 and 1999 games were very exciting and impactful.

12. South Carolina - In reality, not much of a rival but we are in the same division and it always tends to be a close game. I am not sure either fanbase would call it a true rival but then again, if the scheduling rumors are correct, apparently they will be one of our three permanent opponents

13. Texas - Not much of a rival now but I think this one has potential when they join the SEC. It can be called the battle of the UTs. There is a lot of historical connections between the two states, both schools are orange and white and call themselves UT. I just get a vibe that this one is going to take off

Stop it.. You sound like WV fans who think we are a rival now too..

Bro your volunteers lost the one battle they were in.. They definitely weren't SEC ready back then

Touché. But they won at San Jacinta when Coach Sam Houston lead them to victory over that Mexican team that was favored.

Also the Alamo was a MORAL VICTORY... granted that is very Tennessee as we have had a lot of those lately....

then they try and push that onto other conferences. Oregon Stanford was never a rivalry but people tried to call it that when Shaw and Kelly were going back and forth
