The consensus was that both Wild Card teams would come from the West. However, with Tatis,Jr being out the rest of the season the Padres may be vulnerable. The Reds are coming on. Only 3.5 back right now.

At the ASB, it looked like a lock that the NL West would have 3 playoff teams, but that second Wild Card spot is worth paying attention to now.

Reds are 2.5 games back
Braves and Phillies are 4 games back(both currently tied for first in the NL East)
Cardinals are 4.5 games back(and given their history, I'm gonna pay close attention to them)
Mets are 5.5 games back

The whole 2nd wild card concept is an abomination.

They got it right in '95 when they first started the wild card. Best non-division winner gets in. 4 teams each league. This 1-game play in is horse crap.

I agree but these are the rules that are in place. As such, there is a race worth watching.

Without a second wild card, most playoff spots would already be decided. Being a wild card team should come with more of a disadvantage than just being the road team. Make em earn it

A 1-game play in, especially in baseball, doesn't reflect who's best.

Neither does a five or seven game series. It just tells you who was hot at the right time. My team won the World Series three times in the past dozen years. In none of those years were they the best team.
