Derby champ faces DQ; Baffert banned by track

Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit failed a postrace drug test, news that trainer Bob Baffert called "the biggest gut punch." Churchill Downs has suspended Baffert from entering horses at the track.

The guy can't even admit that this thing happened under his watch and claims the "medication" was never administered to Medina Spirit that he knew of. His claim is that he'll conduct his own investigation. Okay, OJ.

He had a few high profile failed drug tests last year (see Charlatan and Gamine) where they admitted to administering the drug but said it was within the allowed time frame and somehow the positive still came back. This case is interesting because he’s denying even administering the drug to Medina Spirit. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
