Notre Dame Seeking $75 million/yr from NBC

Smart move by Notre Dame. NBC knows that if they don't match, Notre Dame could head off to B1G.

I wonder how much the GOR portion of non football is for ND. They'd still be in the black moving to B1G but im still curious.

Price of independence is high.

Evidently NBC is looking for a conference deal also to help shoulder some of the burden.

For NBC to feel comfortable raising Notre Dame's valuation to such a level, it is seeking "shoulder programming" (in this case, games played before and/or after Notre Dame's contests) from a Power Five conference to enhance its college football coverage.

When such a move had been speculated previously, the Big Ten was the conference mentioned most often as a target. However, the Big 12 has emerged as a strong option to fill NBC's shoulder programming needs.

The Big Ten is expected to announce a new $1 billion media rights deal possibly as early as this month with Fox as its primary partner. It is believed to be seeking 2-3 other partners to air its programming with NBC reportedly among the bidders.

The PAC and Big 12 are probably scrambling to get in on that train.

This. They’re trying to expand their college football slate. It looks like Big 12 is in the lead right now I’m hearing.

Whats NBC gonna say?
"Fat chance we are goin with the PAC and Big12 for our content?"

NBC is negotiating with the Big 12. It's in the article I posted.

"However, the Big 12 has emerged as a strong option to fill NBC's shoulder programming needs."

ARE Notre Dame home games worth that kind of money these days though?

Marshall
Cal
BYU
Stanford

Clemson

Boston College..

I hope they tell ND that its too much and they go full throttle with the Big12 TBH.

damn.. LHN was the same (a little more) than the NBC deal for ND?!?!? LHN was back loaded too.. but jeez.. Texas really did bend over ESPN on that deal.. all they got was 3rd tier rights which was 1 at the most 2 games a year.

75 mil is a steep price to pay.. But if Freeman can get the program to an elite level, it just may be a bargain

The lowest-rated game last year was against GT with 1.45 million viewers. That game ended 55-0, so I even tuned out early. The Navy game was 1.9 million viewers, but again that was another blowout.

The Clemson game will likely get 5-6 million viewers. That alone means a ton. Wouldn't surprise me if Marshall is on Peacock like the Toledo game was last year, so it's hard to get a number of what a game like that would do. I think the BYU game will draw a significant number too. Certainly not a great home slate, but I'd guess, overall, the viewership will be better than last year.

There’s a whole bunch of games that aren’t worth that kind of money….at least in my opinion. Networks ate willing to broadcast shitty match ups like Rutgers/Indiana in order to get to broadcast Ohio State/Michigan. Gotta take some thorns with the rises!

Key word. Only sports that generate GOR outside of Football are Men's and Women's Basketball. Between the two, Men's Basketball is probably the only one that would have any significant value. However, if it was that valuable, Kansas would be a hot commodity right now.
