That is akin to sitting on a flaming porcupine or sliding down a razor blade.
Maybe it will end in a 0-0 tie and neither one gets to advance.
It looked like it was consistent and months-long to me. L10 for the Giants and Dodgers was like 7-3 or 8-2 or 9-1 and for the Padres it was 5-5 or 6-4.Padres had an epic second half collapse this year
It was worse than that. Their post ASB record was terrible, and it had to be terrible for them to finish under .500It looked like it was consistent and months-long to me. L10 for the Giants and Dodgers was like 7-3 or 8-2 or 9-1 and for the Padres it was 5-5 or 6-4.
They were 67-49 after 116 games. They were in the middle of a 13 game run against the Marlins, Diamondbacks, and Rockies, before the schedule got crazy hard (28 of their last 38 games were against teams that made the playoffs, they played 3 against Philly and Arizona, and four with the Angels). They went 12-34 in the last 46 games, never won more than 2 in a row, and had losing streaks of 4, 4, 5, 5, and 7. Complete meltdown. .261 winning percentage after August 10.It was worse than that. Sounds like their 2010 or the Giants’ 2016.They were 67-49 after 116 games. How does that stack up with the Mets in that same timeframe? My gut says Padres had the biggest second half fall, but want to make sure the data backs that upThey were 67-49 after 116 games. Mets were slightly better, but started losing sooner. Padres were 18-36 (.333) from August 1 on, Mets were 21-37 (.362). Mets also played the Marlins and Nats a ton during that stretch (24 of 58 games), so I'd argue that their meltdown looks worse. How does that stack up with the Mets in that same timeframe? Not much time. Their season is almost over…There's still time left to fuck the Dodgers.

I get that they had injury problems with their rotation, but with the lead they had built up and the talent on their roster, there was no way it should have snowballed as bad as it did. Mets had a similar collapse against a far weaker schedule, but we’ve all come to expect that from them, so no heat taken off the PadresYeah, not sure what happened to the Padres. It was supposed to come down to Dodgers/Padres, but the Padres fell off a cliff after the ASB and the Giants forgot they were supposed to be a 4th place team.
