Oklahoma fans ... this won't work in the SEC

Maybe. However, Venables might be looking to do something that separates themselves from the rest of the conference. If he's not going to out recruit Bama or UGA regardless, he might be better off getting top 10 classes and building a really strong culture.

Possibly. But that doesn't seem to be how things are going these days.

Probably why we saw Saban go 17 stretch against his former assistants using his same coaching philosophy.
You're not going to out Saban, Saban
I mentioned above that would be a good argument for not trying to take on the top recruiters. The only thing I disagree with is that Oklahoma is a blue-blood, they have history - recent and past - that should allow them to take on Bama, UGA, and especially ATM. I would think they would have the money to do it.

True, OU has the potential to get to the elite level (93+ avg). Riley has done a very good job getting classes in the 91.0 avg, I think the only thing that was missing was good play on defense to convince highly rated defensive players to commit. Now they have BV so defensive recruiting shouldn't be an issue. If BV/Jeff Lebby can handle the offense correctly maybe OU will start recruiting on an elite level on both sides of the ball

Hadn't thought of that, but if they can still recruit O as they did before, and now D, that might get them up to the 93 level.

We can all agree, this isn't Mizzou coming into the SEC. It's not even ATM. OU is blue-blood, own their state, has great alumni, and has money.

I'm not trying to troll, this is a legit question. Should OU expect their recruiting to be better than 4th-6th in the SEC once they join?

They're recruiting at the level I would expect them to recruit at TBH
Even in the SEC there are levels of blue bloods. OU and 1 other team are in the top level. That answers your question.

Ok sure. By that logic, OU is underperforming on the recruiting trail, right?

LOL

There is no fucking blue blood levels in the SEC that's delusional BS you are selling your mind and it won't win you a single recruit.

Not necessarily. I think Venables will get his type of player, thus far he seems to be.

If BV has the ability to recruit like UGA or Bama at OU and he chooses not to, that’s a huge mistake. It’s far more likely that he doesn’t have the ability to recruit at the same level

Venables is going to do things his way. If he can’t succeed at a place like OU then his way won’t work. We are going to find out.

8 pages without mention of a touchdown, field goal or a sack. And you guys call yourself football fans? You are recruiting fans.
I’m gonna tackle @outofyourmind and @Goldbug for a 20 yard loss just like my Miners are gonna do to their sooners a month from now!😎

I am a recruiting fan because it is part of being a college football fan. I do understand those who don't follow it, and just show up when the season starts. But me following recruiting makes me more of a college football fan, not less. That said, I don't judge those who don't follow recruiting.

That's like saying I am a car fan and I am also a car salesman fan makes me more of a car fan. The nuts and bolts of recruiting is selling your product.

My guess is that he modifies the Dabo-way once he gets to the SEC. If he doesn't, it will most certainly be an interesting experiment. I might have to come back with hat in hand if it works.

No, it's more like being a car fan and also a fan of car engines. We are discussing who makes the better engine that goes in the car. That's a better analogy.

I can see being a fan of recruiting if your school has a shot at actually landing highly ranked recruits. For the rest of us it boils down to how many diamonds in the rough our guys can find and…

I followed when Richt was more like a 5-15 type guy. I have NCSU friends who follow it and they are 30-40 level recruits. I guess you just look at it differently.
