Well, someone is stupid. They ran Dillon Gabriel off to go compete for a Heisman Trophy at Oregon in order to keep Jackson Arnold who they are paying several hundred thousand dollars to play as bad as any starter in OU history. Yeah, someone is dumb as fuck at OU. Joe Castiglione can't be happy with what he's seeing.

Gabriel was leaving to get paid, it might have taken 2 to 3 million to keep him another year. Oh, Arnold is getting a million a year by the way.
 
My thoughts on the DG situation...

He declared for the draft, didn't get the grade he liked, and wanted another year in college to try and improve. Coach Venables told him he was welcome back but would be competing for the starting QB job, it wasn't guaranteed. Oregon offered a solid NIL package and the starting job. It was an easy pick for him and there is no bad feeling towards him from most Sooners.

Also an interview Gabriel did in which he said he would earn more money in NIL than being an undrafted free agent.

Here is the thing Freeze inherited a gutted program from Harsin. I think there are two guys that Harsin recruited still on the team so we lost two years of development.

I don’t think Freeze is the greatest thing since sliced bread but it’s going to take more than 2 seasons for anyone to fix our issues.

I hate NIL. People told me "Goldbug, you've never tried it. How do you know you don't like it?" And I said I've never shoved a cucumber up my ass but I'm pretty sure it's not my thing. Nothing has changed.

Just my opinion, but Venables made major errors in the off-season. He really needed to fix that OL. Injuries have exacerbated the situation, but asking a young QB to develop behind one of the worst OU OLs in recent memory was a recipe for disaster

We’re so banged up rn, many more injuries and I’m not sure we’ll have a team to take the field come November.

The injuries is what makes this suck so badly. I don't think the game would be that close if the Sooners were at full power. And I would like to see what Hawkins could do, but the O line being banged up has me feeling meh about this one.
